What’s this, now? 9 PS2 games and 38 Playstation games might not be backwards compatible with the PS3? Holy poop, you say. That’s terrible. Why would that be? Well:

“We believe multiple factors are responsible,” said Reiko Sakamoto, a spokeswoman for SCEI in Tokyo. The latest console uses a new chipset — the chip that sits between the main processor and the rest of the device — and changes in that chip coupled with the way some software is programmed are believed to be causing the glitches, she said. The problems are largely screen hang-ups during certain parts of the game but also include glitches such as the slow saving of game data onto memory cards.

So it seems that there’s one stupid glitch in just about 47 games that is hanging stuff up for us all. Big deal? Probably not, considering there are 8,000 PS and PS2 games. Then we get this little tip in the jar from reader Ive:

well regardless of who knows who, sony has already admitted to the new version of the ps2 (silver skinny one) having compatibility issues with some ps1 and ps2 games (tekken 5 for example). they have also stated that they cant garuntee that the ps3 will be 100% BC

Remember we reported last week that the new limited edition Silver PS2 was not compatible with all PS2 & PSX games? Well now Sony says that is only going to get worse. Now, to add to that, Sony is saying that the PS3 will not be 100% backwards compatible. Here we go folks, let the spin begin! According to the Sony rep that DWT talked to, it is hard to say the PS3 will be 100% compatible with PS2 games.

what kind of company redesings their platform in such a sloppy manner that it has issues with even current games. to make it worse is that sony knows of the issues and yet hasnt even stated of doing anything to fix the situation, who ever wants the new version is SoL, and keep the old version.

I got mine before Christmas. Everyone walked right passed them because of the Xbox 360s.
