Brand new Aladdin XT 4032 lite chip, xbox never modded before. installed chip according to HackDaBox's site. Using red Alladin XT chip from RobotPig. I havn't flashed it to 1.0-1.5 bios yet. Should I do this before installing (how?)?

I installed the chip... Status:

Tap Power button: Goes into MS Dash, no evox logo
Tap Eject button: Goes into MS Dash, no evox logo
Hold Power 2 seconds: Turns orange for about a second, then flashes red and orange

I looked at all three mount points (BT,D0,L1) and all 3 look good. Only a little worried about L1 since it may touch something else, but 95% sure it's not.

I'm using the following mount points:
BT & L1

i read a lot of threads and many said that the LPC probably wasn't touching 100%. i added more solder to each to completely touch the lpc. maybe the chip isn't touching the lpc?

well anyway, now when holding down power, it resets twice and then FRAGs. i don't know what else to do....

please help anyone, i'm lost from here!

Please!

Does the chip have a bios on it, even a flashing one such as cromwell? Without a bios, there is not much that will happen after installing other than the red LED.

So;

check the place that you got it from if it has anything loaded on it or if you have to program it yourself, if you have to program it yourself then you are going to need a programmer for it.

Frags usually mean a problem at the LPC so I hope you did not over heat anything at the LPC or have too much solder on it.

If there is no bios on the chip the box would FRAG. All chips come with a bios of some sort.
Re-do the install it sounds like a soldering issue. Pictures may help

robotpig.com preflashes them with evox m8 1.6 bios... what do u mean overheat at the lpc? doesn't it not matter since the xbox still boots? i will need to program it which is why i used hackdabox's reflash cdrw & dvd thing which doesn't boot when i hold down the power button

i may have too much solder in it because i added more but only because i read that the lpc must be 100% connected to it

To Chancer;
There has been many times that I have recieved Aladdins without being flashed with anything and there has been a few times I would place on a blank 020 by mistake and all I got was a red LED, once I corrected this then all works fine. I don't know, maybe I'm just cursed that way sad.gif

What I ment for the overheating of the LPC is when you were soldering try not to overheat the area for fear of damaging an internal trace. Even though it boots without a chip doesn't mean there is not damage to the board.

Strange that sounds more like a dud flash with flashbios. Gives those same symptoms. Red LED and no video audio etc. I hope you changed the supplier smile.gif
You can check if this is the problem. Just pop out the SST chip and see what happens. The one on the bench here this morning FRAGs (Just doing a re-flash with the programmer)
On a similar theme the willem 2 programmer flashes the SST chips and a load more beside if you come across ones with a problem.

Yes, I have changed the suppliers. I was getting a bit choked about it. I too get the FRAG without the SST testing now and even when I place in the blanks I have except for the odd one that just turns the LED red. I'm starting to think the first batch might not have been such a deal as I once thought...

You know with all the time I wasted on it I never though of just booting without the chip in... blink.gif

Thanks beerchug.gif

Edit

Oh, and yes I have been flashing a bunch with the programmer, I ordered a lot of chips just to replace the ones that came with the Aladdins (Like I said earlier, I was getting a bit frustrated) but it is all settled now, once again thanks.

flashing orange and red usually means you have a lifted trace under the lpc pinheader(the reset signal for pin5) - especially on v1.0 mobos.

i have used this tutorial for repairing this problem before and it is relatively easy...
fix red/orange

according to xboxrepairguide, flashing red/orange error lights can also mean memory failure, but i would try this first.

by the way, you do not have to remove the pinheader; you can simply make both connections on the bottom side of the mobo to repair this and hopefully it will work for you.

good luck!
