I noticed that the 360 seems to be quite powerful lol. Would make a great desktop computer.. I could really use a new one.

Do you guys think theres a possibility that in the future we could take the 360 and use it as a full blown desktop computer? I'm sure it would take a year or two... maybe never since this will be a "tough one" to crack.

It prevents you from running Windows XP on it, for sure. Linux is a different story. That can be adapted to work on almost any Von Neuman machine.

Sounds like the teams have got more work to do, anybody have any rough idea of how long it'd take to configure a linux system to run on a new hardware set after access to the system is public, ie hacked modded etc???

Not really been into linux, since couldn't get it bloody working grr.gif

Stupid xbox, wo wo wo fudge, sorry 'bout that i will slap myself for the outburst

Well you definately won't be seeing anything that begins with Win working for the 360. Best case you'll get what you got from the Xbox: Linux.

OSX here we come.

Ya I can see it and Linux is built for PPC to so shouldn't be to hard. And M$ is releasing a VGA cable so you can hook up to a PC monitor and USB ports for a keyboard and mouse.

I cant wait to get seti@home on all them 3 cores.

Maybe M$ is just waiting to shock us all and release Windows Vista 360 (specially designed to run on the xbox 360).

That would be sweet.

Probably not windows but there is a good chance that OSX can be made to work. I remember someone installing OSX on an Xbox using linux as an installer.

I don't think the XBOX1 was meant to run Windows 98 either. My XBOX + A Bigger HDD + a Mod-Chip + The Necessary Programs = Windows 98. This equation has obviously worked well for others.

It's easy to say this system can't be hacked in anyway because it's so new, and with the given time we've had so far, we just don't understand the architechture.
Never is easy to say, but in given time, this system will have clear cases, chips, lighting, and plenty of exploits for the whole party to grab at. Every system has had a taste from a hacker, 360 is just standing next in the line.

A system with 512mb of ram and 3 CPU's running 3.2ghz each [combined total of 9.6ghz all together] is more than enough to make Windows XP cry, it sure has made my computer do so.

Patience people, patience.

I agree with thesamarchy, never has a console gone by that has not been hacked. The task is monumental and a long road ahead but even M$ is expecting it to get hacked so that should tell you something.

As for running windows, once linux is running on the system you can probably use lindows or one of the other emulating software, w/512 megs of ram and all that processing power there wont be the slow issues as with xbox 1.

the 360 does not add up to 9.6ghz. Sorry, it doesn't work that way.
