could u use an old xbox controller with the new xbox 360? I have a usb to xbox cord that i made for a friend (he hasnt taken it from me yet) and was thinking that it should be compatable but wasnt sure. i know some people are very picky about the using only big controllers. i loooove the 360 controllers though. the are so light and fit perfectly in ur hands.

the signaling is apparantly completely different on the new ones, so it's feasible if you want to make a signal processor for it you probably could, but it's probably not worth it.

God dammit. Yes you were the first to post in here but hopefully you will be the last to ask that question since it is all over the forums.... Use SEARCH so we don't have to waste time reading all of the same questions. Anyway, that fucking sucks that ms did not make the old controllers compatable. Im really pissed that I have to buy 3 new additional controllers to go with my system...What can we do about this if anything????

A signal converter is what I'm talking about.
I quite dislike the 360 controllers actually. I'm gunna try and put one in an S-Controller case, and make the jewel the 360 button. I hate having 4 triggers. It's too similar to the HORRIBLE playstation controller layout.

i like the 360 controllers better. i would like to get one for my xbox since im not gonna get a 360 till they go down in price. i wonder if they will come out with a IR recieving unit for the xbox that will work on the frequencies of the 360 controller and make them compatable.

I like the feel of the 360 controllers except for the fact that the radius of movement for the sticks is smaller than the original xbox controllers. Anyone else notice that? It felt weird to me.

Its not really about signal compatibility. All Xbox 360 peripheals use an ID chip to let the system know htey are legitimate (ie: licensed) devices. Old Xbox controllers don't have that chip. Ergo, they won't work.
