Problems With Movies. Options

I've been getting very interested in making skins. Although so far, all I've done is edit some that I've gotten before from other sites.

The biggest problem I have is making movies for the background. Everytime I make a movie, I uploaded it to the specific skin folder and edit the skin.xml and rename the movie file it had before. I save them all as '.wmv' and I make them with Windows Movie Maker, and my mod is Unleash-X.

If anybody could help, I would appreciate it.

Also, everytime I download a program to help with skinning, the program is always messed up. I only had one that seemed it was going to work, and then it told me I needed a program from Windows Update and when I downloaded that file, it messed up as well. So if anybody could show me where to get a good skinning program as well, that would be appreciated too.
