Ripping Games Via Dvd, SATA DVD hack possible? Options

You could take out the SATA cable plug a PC SATA cable in the drive then plug in your PC see if it detects it and trying reading a xbox 360 disc through the PC using the xbox 360 drive?

If this doesnt work it would rule out the security chip being embedded into the DVD drive.

Has anyone pluged the HDD in via SATA?

I like the idea, but you'd have to write your own driver for it ...

I believe it has been tested and proven as having zero functionality on a PC so far.

That's because no one succeeded in writing the correct driver.

I doubt the drive alone will be able to read 360 games on a PC, driver or not.. not even the old xbox drive could do that, and the disk format etc are known.

also, the drives seem to be using a standard chipset, but with custom firmware.. same thing as with xbox 1.

Xbox 360 is all about learning from the failures/successes from the original Xbox. The DVD drive and DVD copy protection proved very effective. I think they're going to stick with what they had before, except for a different file system to stop people using the original Xbox to rip and to throw us off.

Well, it's a combination of firmware and driver that's needed to read every single bit on the disc, so i don't see why it can't be done.

I think it hasn't been done on the xbox 1 since there was just no need for it, there were modchips very soon after the release. On the 360 however, it might be much more difficult to create a (soft) mod, so reading every single bit on the DVD might be required this time to build something to play backups ...

Im thinking if you did that and then stuck a 360 game in, ftp into your box. I wounder if it would allow you to see the game.

It is worth a try, even if it's not likely to work. There's always a possibility. At this point, we don't know enough to rule things out. Perhaps the firmware is compatible with the original xbox, thus allowing us to read all kinds of discs. I doubt it, but I'd still try it if I could.

well it should work, because the drive can read old xbox games. And with a convertor from SATA to PATA the xbox should beable to use it. You will need to find a way to power it still. The only way i can think of it not working is if MSFT made the firmware not work with the old xbox. Not sure if they can even do that but it is worth a try. The worst thing that happens is teh xbox doesnt read the disk.

Has anyone tried reading a 360 disc from an xbox1 dvd drive?

Since an xbox1 dvd drive reads that it is a 360 disc, maybe we could see what else is on the disc via ftp, or just one of the many file managers there are on xbox.
