i dont actually want to put windows on the xbox, but would like to have an emulator for the box to run windows applications...such as java or realplayer...
is there an emulator already made for this or does it need to be made?

If you could get WINE running under one of the xBox Linux Distros, you should be able to run all of that. (WINE creates an environment, in which the win32 API can be used)

Anyway, java is on Linux, and there are alternatives to RealPlayer.
(If you're on xebian, use apt-cache search java, you should get a few results.)
