i got the blu fans from coolerguys and installed em but tbh its not a mod im fully happy with as noise is an issue for me.
it seems like its on full fan speed all the time even in dash, yet it quietens down when playin a movie. playin a game and sittin in dash are the same noise level, strange.....
when it is powered on from bieng off overnight (cool) its quiet as a mouse until it heats up a bit then very soon after approx 2-3mins its whirring like a mad man!!!!!!!! i live in a guest house that i run so i cannot play my 360 after a certain time because of the 747's taking off in my living room!!!!!!!
with the stock fans the fanspeed seemed to me more regulated than with these fans, i followed tut and rechecked my wiring but it all seems to be in order.
now thinkin of rewirin 1 of the fans to help the noise level.

Perfect Fan!
Man this is the perfect fan for the 360 cause it's high CFM and LOW noise. The only problem is that it's bundled with the heatsink and it's $50! I just want the fan but I can't find the fan seperately and I aint paying nearly $100 just for 2 fans for the 360. dry.gif

I have a hard time believing that your going to get the system to run any quiter by swapping the fans. The noise when either in game or not (aka media center use or whatever) is still almost entirly from the dvd drive. The humming noise that you hear is from the dvd drive. Don't believe me then disconnect your fans and turn the system on. Don't worry you won't blow anything up it simple will just give you the red ring of death after the system reaches a certain temp. and needless to say I had mine continue to work for about 5 minutes before that happened which I don't really recommend. Just leave it on long enough to verify what I'm saying. Anyway you will still hear the same amount of noise as when they are plugged in because like I said its entirly from the dvd drive. You will not get rid of any of the humming or anything by changing fans. Unless you have the machine turned around backwards and are sittign within 2 feet of the back of the case you will not hear any difference and even then it would be so small of a difference that it would be pointless to do this mod for the sole intent of getting less noise. Now getting increased airflow and cosmetic reasons I can understand because there are defenitly better fans then the ones back there that are rated at higher airflow and at the same noise lvl if not lower and they look cooler! smile.gif

Couldn't have said it any better myself. beerchug.gif

Yes I know that. 60mm fans are too small.

I've been building PC for years but I am very much a newbie on the XBOX scene so I don't what to start a war here but the source of my noise are the fans. I just confirmed this by simply sticking two cable ties in the back fan holes before the unit was powered after it was on I took them out and the are horrible. I've been building media center PC's for a year now and pride myself on trying to make them quieter and quieter with each one I build. Anyway I'm only using my 360 as media center extender and hope to start selling units and configuring them to be extenders so a lot of these with be in bedrooms. But the fans are way too loud so I read this entire post along with this: http://www.xboxchopshop.com/catalog/man_360_ledfans.php It seems very straight forward I've spliced many a fan I just want to make sure I don't fry the fan connector on the motherboard of my $300 MCE extender. So I guess my question is the information on xboxshop correct. Simply cut and red to red & black to black, red to brown & black to blue?

yeah, my question too, would love to put led fans in my modded 360 and quiten down my other, but i've heard of blowing something on the fan connector... will putting led fans in and wiring them to the connector work, and will the system speed up the fan and slow it down as needed?

Hey guys,

I am all new to this xbox scene but I am already tired of the noise so I wanted to do something about it. I bought 2 12v. Silenx Ixtrema 16DBA fans a couple of days ago. Tonight was the night that I wanted to do the replacement. I opened my xbox and removed the stockfans. No problem. I did the cutting of the wires and rewired the new fans with 2 of the 3 wires. They are running but it seems they are running at a much lower speed. And they are not spinning up when needed which means that after 3 minutes of playing a game it shuts of. So my question to you experts are.... Did I do anything wrong?? I followed the guide from Aweirdguys tutorial which seemed pretty easy.

How do I get them to run as the original fans?? And if I dont, how should I connect them correctly to 12V?? I have read some of the threads and it seems that running power of the DVD is not the best way to do this.. Can anybody confirm this??

Thanks for your great help.

Jeppe

Ok, i get the tutorial. Except when it come to soldering the single wire to the 12v source.

If i solder a wire to that pin on the connector (let me get this right.. the top left pin shown in the diagram?) ... then how on earth does the dvd power cable fit back into place??? I fear i have fried my fans power plug source, i don't know how this happened and this looks like my only way around it to get the fans working again.

If anyone could show a before but mainly an AFTER pic i'd be real grateful. Also, you said about the fan being alternatively wired to the dvd power WIRE. How do i do this, i'm not familiar with wiring. Will i need to cut the wire.. sounds dangerous messing with the dvd power source. Alternatively, where are these usb points i can solder to?

One last question, only the fan closest to the POWER CORD has stopped for me, if i want to just rewire that single fan, what colour wire is it i would need to solder to the dvds power pin? Can i leave the others plugged into the original fan plug. Will i need to earth anything if i do just the single fan. Thanks, especially to anyone who can give me more detail

Everyone needs to chill out and check the spots on the mother board for front cooling. If there is a way to do front cooling, you can suck air in and blow it out the back. This will greatly improve cooling issues, not to mention why doesn't someone just install a limiter on the amount of current the fan gets? Think guys. Don't just read and except.

OK here's a good warning. Do not connect anything extra to the stock fan connector! It will blow a very sensative component on the mobo, and render the fan plug useless. Only draw power from the 5v USB, the 12v DVD, or that extra fan source it that's what it is. Btw, I believe they're 80mm fans, not 60mm or 90mm. I kinda measured them roughly, and 60mm is way too small. But 90mm is too big.

Okay to inform everyone, the fans are 70mmx70mm. The stock fans output is alot more than commonly found 70mm fans.
