I just did the mod, only thing was I didn't actually cut the fan wires and join it over to a 12V point, instead I soldered a piece of wire across the mosfet (or was it a transistor) controlling the voltage to the fans... shorted the centre and rightmost side pin (when viewed with legs pointing downwards) Xbox runs alot cooler now...

This sounds reasonable, you got a pic?

I LOVE THIS
WHATS REALLY FUNNY IS THAT IF THE FANS ALWAYS RAN AT 12 VOLTS FACTORY
PEOPLE WOULD BE TRYING TO MOD THEM TO RUN AT 12V ONLY WHEN NEEDED TO QUIET THE SYSTEM

LOL

I CAN TELL YOU FROM EXPERIENCE.. YOU DONT NEED TO MOD TO 12 VOLT UNLESS YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HEAT ISSUES

Could I mod a third fan off of these wires? Safely? I was going to put an aluminum fan on the CPU heatsink for colling, can I just splice it off of the 4pin wires of the stock fans, if so which one or should i just use both?

Answered in your thread. Don't power anything from the stock fans connector except the stock fans. Use a power source other than the DVD connnector as well, there are alternate power sources shown in the Pinned: Tuts/Guides section.

I have some 26 Gauge Wire here, Is it good enough to wire the 2 cables to a 12v?

Shorting the C-E of the Transistor should really only be done for temporary testing puropses, not a permanant solution, unless the Transistor is completely removed. If ya can't find the Center and Right side legs of the Transistors in question (Q3A2 Top, Q3M1 Bottom) ya probably shouldn't be soldering them then. wink.gif

Yes using a 26awg wire will be fine.

"the bottom rear 12 source"

maybe I'm retarded but I don't automatically know where that is. I noticed somebody else was confused with the 12v DVD refrence, thinking it solder directly to the port, instead of splicing the dvd cable itself...that is what we're supposed to do right? Which color do I cut on the DVD wire? Regarding board resouorces, I guess I'll check out the pinned again for pics

IPB Image

ok this worked for me, I cut some plastic off the wire that was corrosponding to the pin listed in the original post, then grabbed a spare wire, and ran it to the cpu fans brown power. I'm only doing one fan as I suspect noise maybe an issue. I also didn't cut the brown wire, rather forced the pin out with a tiny screw driver, then electrical taped everything...just in case I want to revert later.

something zilli0n said a few pages back had me worried. about removing the fan shroud to make the fans run faster? was that sarcastic? the only reason the fans are running faster is because the cpu is frying! without the shroud air isn't getting drawn through the heatsink at all. Also i'm not expert but i think sealing the shroud around the heatsinks so air only gets drawn through the front of the heatsink instead of leaking in at the back and going straight out of the xbox would be more beneficial than a 12v mod? or even better seal the shroud AND have the fans running at 12v. Also one more thing intrigues me is whether or not we can change the transistor or the output from the temperature sensor so show a higher reading all the time so the fans always run one notch higher than stock. that way we have better cooling but also the added benefit of the fans being quiet when the system is idle e.g when watching dvds.

So I was getting the flash firmware mod and the guy that was doing it for me offered to do this 12v fan mod and told me it was useful in keeping the system from overheating. This didn't sound bad at all so I agreed in letting him do it. Now I regret this SO much. I mean, it serves its purpose in keeping the system cool but I didn't know it was gonna sound like if I had a jet engine inside my system. I live in a 3 story house and you can hear the 360 throughout the entire house. It's crazy.

**What I needed to know is if this mod is reversible in getting my system back to its original state, or maybe just getting one fan back to normal and keeping the other at 12v, or did all the soldering make this impossible and I'm now stuck with a hairdryer gaming console?**

Just pulled my motherboard out and soldered a ground and a power wire to the psu points and ran them up to where I tied 2 hot fan wires and 2 ground fan wires and my xcm fan is screaming fast and isnt even really that loud. But even if it was I wouldnt really give a shit as long as I never see the lcd temp screen get in the 80 degree range anymore. Waiting on my heatsink 3rd fan anxously.

Ok! Need some help I got some stuff off eBay real cheap, and need littlie giddiness on hooking it up to my Xbox 360 so they all work properly.

1. BLASTER 360 - which I plan on hooking up the whey the said to in there instruction.

2. XCM FAN LCD KIT - which is hooked and powered by the DVD Drive cable would like a break down on the wires and which ones to take out of the harness. So I can solder them under the PSU or front fan spot.

3. Chomelnone Case - same here can I just solder it to any, “I think its 5v correct me if Im wrong” please. Or dos it need to go through the board it came with not sure if there is a capsiter on it.
