My wife would like a fireplace or fire on the screen while we're playing music through XBMC. I can probably get a video loop of a fireplace, thats not a problem. How would I set it up so the video loops while the music continues to stream? And would I be able to set it up so the mp3 info still displays on the lower 3rd of the screen over the fire video?

Hmm, since your looking for a fireplace that can be shown alongside a play list, that definitely seems to be something an actual visualization needs to be created to accomplish, though there may be other ways that are available. To accomplish such a visualization, you probably need real-time footage of a fireplace to make it look decent, and I doubt anyone would want to create some kind of animated fireplace, which would look like crap anyways. I never created a visualization, so I'm not sure if video footage can be incorporated, or at least set up to just play on demand.

There's a thread on the xbmc forum of someone that actually created a visualization of flames to appear like a fireplace, but its just mainly animated flames going about the screen, which i doubt is what your looking for.

If you want to check it out, here's the thread link --> XBMC forum flames link . If you scroll down the thread there's a link to download the visualization, which you could extract and copy to your xbmc's visualization folder to see how it looks.

If no one else has a solution, here's a link to a DVD of a fireplace that looks pretty good, though you won't be able to play your music with the footage, well at least I don't think you can. --> DVD Fireplace Link

That flames visualization worked perfectly, thanks! It's not the most convincing flames, but it's decent, and a lot less distracting than milkdrop with it's background acid trip...

If anyone's interested, get the visualization (and a matching screensaver!) at SourceForge. I think you have to register. Scroll down and download xflamefxdlls.zip

EXTRACT the contents of the zip, and copy the contents of the new "screensavers" folder into you XBMC/screensavers/ dir, and the content of the new visualisations folder into your XBMC/visualizations folder.

I didn't like all the other presets available, so I went into XBMC/visualisations/xflamefx and renamed the presets.zip to "ALLpresets.zip" Then I took "Effect9.xml" and put it by itself in a new "presets.zip" in the same folder. I get the right vis every time.

Once again, thanks. This works great, and its mellow enough to run during holiday parties.

Sorry to bring up an old post but

Any Chance of getting this working for the latest t3ch?

I think it would be perfect for a background visualization. biggrin.gif

Just tried it on mine - the screensaver works fine, but the visualization is a bit borked - shame, something like this would have been nice.

Agreed, I'd use it ALL the time, any chance of actually getting something like this for the newer builds of XBMC, I'm getting sick of milkdrop, gives me a headache after too long tongue.gif
