Is it a cultural thing that they despise American goods (as in Movies, Pop Music) or they don't simply care about MS? I mean if MS was an UK or German company, would they treat them the way theyt treat MS?

Or maybe is it games?

In all honeslty I find the lauch titles both domestic and elsewhere very weak: Condemned is among one of them, Japanese they simply don't care for a NY Cop being framed. For racing game they already have RR6. Ot the "old" FF demo that was bundled with Japanes units.

They crave fantasy, flashy stuff, etc. (I don't blame them either). It's funny, that even my wife finds Japanese games more interesting than Western based titles.

Why is it?

I can't stand most Japanese games, or even games that look/feel japanese. I never went with the japanimation fad, or the card games. That is why I like Xbox and not PS2. So I can see why they wouldn't like the 360...

It is mostly because of the terrible line-up it had with no great title being released for the system in time.
MS should have really pushed devs to release games for launch or posptponed the launch there.

The answer will vary from person to person, and in the end, they are all correct in some way shape or form.

Less games overall, less games they like, its not a Sony.

I used this comparison in another thread and I'll do it again here...

-Assume all things are equal, put a ps3 and a 360 infront of the Japanese public.
-take ALL media functions out of BOTH systems so they are Nothing but game machines and offer nothing different to entice the gamers one way or the other.
-make Ridge Racer 6 the ONLY title available at their launches.
-make them launch on the same day.
-lets get outrageous...make the ps3 $100.00 more than the 360.

When the dust settles on that launch day, the ps3 will have sold 1.5 million systems, while the 360 would walk away with a couple thousand.

Same system, capable of the same things graphically, no extra functions seperate the 2, and the 360 is the cheaper one....

If someone disagrees, by all means Please do so(hopefully in a mature fashion). You could put a dent in this by saying "the japanese are buying more ps3s because they know down the line it will offer them more of the gametypes they like" and you'd be correct.

Did I forget 2 add -lets say RR 6 is the only game out for the first 9 months- ?

laugh.gif Now Im just typing out my @$$, exiting....

The Japanese bought tons of Apple iPods. Last time I checked that was made by an American company. Let's see what is it about the iPod that is so cool - It's sleek, it's sexy and it's perfectly executed.

Let's see what is about the Xbox 360? It's got 2 racing games that they don't really care for and a FPS that is practically american except for the slight anime slant to the character models.

Any Final Fantasy? Nope. Any mistwalker games that they were buzzing about? Nope. Any DOA4? Nope. I guess they'll wait and see.

I'm not buying an 360 yet because its major selling points don't apply to me. I don't have an HDTV and I can't exactly browse the massive game collection they are supposed to have later. The original xbox would still be a better buy for me even if it costed $400 itself and no mod. A bunch of games on the 360 are also available on the original to top it all off.

/I can wait

yeah but ipods werent forced on them...
MS went there cause they wanted to sell there not because the japan wanted xbox 360s
japan wanted the ipod so they bought it...

in my opinion
M$ should have sold big where they could and made their customers very happy wiht the product...then after the buzz hit japan they would have sold more...with more games even

It seems that MS really screwed up on this one... Why would you release a product in a country without any product desire and without a single "hot" game title the region is interested in? By doing so they are leaving stock sitting on Japaneese retailers shelves that the public does not want.

Now, jump to the other markets in the world, and you can't find the hardware at double the retail price.

Basically they are screwing all of us "faithful" gamers just to be able to claim they've had a successful Japaneese launch (which translates into another MS failure).

what’s so important about the Jap market anyway ? for me this year sony have burnt all there bridges and i`ll will never be buying a sony product again... just think root kits and the extremely consumer unfriendly blue-ray format that they are forcing into the market, not to mention umd that are still priced the same as regular dvds ???
