Hi
I was wondering, if i want to use a 29F020 flash chip to my homemade chip, is 90 ns a resonable speed for the chip?
I want to use a chipprogammer to write the XTender 1.1 bios image to the chip, is there anything special i need to do/know?

About updating the Xbox bios:
I havent quite unterstand what you do, are you just writing the XTender 1.1 bios image to the Xbox bios?

Thanks

Ok mate!

Same hassle here. I rang around today to try and find the right eprom
29f020 and i got a great reply for 1 supplier.mininum order of 190 chips at $5 each, stuff that as i only want 5 chips so i can program my chip with the motherboard trick and i will also make my programming board as the main tech at work told me that the swap trick will only work 50% of the time as it has to do with the contact pionts.something like if the 5 volt rail contact 1St you are stuffed so he told me how to make a simply double board with a switch so i can boot up the pc and then switch to the blank eprom and program it without any flash failing>

If i get this up and running i will post the double switch mod biggrin.gif

Good luck mate.

On the homebrew install diagrams I am confused on one solder point. One is labeled 32 and the other is labeled link to 32. My question is do you solder the two points then solder a wire to pin 32 on the flashrom? Any input would be appreciated! wink.gif

I soldered the two points together on the chip and then ran two wires...one to 32 and one to 'link to 32' (31).

I soldered a link between the two points on the board, then ran a wire from the point labeled "32" to pin 32 on the DIP.

Approaching the end......I don't have any electric tape here to tape up the mod, I remember seeing some wrapping theirs in paper. Is that safe?

I wrapped mine in electrical tape to insulate it from any possible contact with the casing. I also used double-sided foam tape to attach the chip to the board.

I made my wires long enough to route it up behind the hard drive.

Paper will do it, but somthing to hold it tight to the board is needed. I use double sided tape and electrical insulating tape.

hey all, i was just looking around, and most places dont carry the 29F080, 29F040, or 29F020 chips anymore, and i was looking for some other model that i could replace it with and still write it to an old computers bios dip.

I have a Pentium 100Mhz mobo (ASUS P55TP4XE -- uses the Intel 430FX chipset I believe) which UNIFLASH reports the flash rom as an Intel 28F001BX/BN-T/12V.

Can I use this board to flash some mod chips?

As well, I have another PentiumII BX board which reports the flash rom as a Macronix MX29L1611G/11V.

How about this one?
