So just standard 5v and 12v huh?

If it were me, I would have used a 350W PSU, this thing takes more power than most PC's.

Suprised it isn' too much current to melt that molex lol jester.gif

But what will this do to the auto-powerup-by-wireless-controller? Most likely the box needs a 5v (like atx-psu's still put out when on standby) trickle to be able to 'hear' the controller and signal the original xbox-psu to start pumping the full juice. Since all of my stuff still works, i'm not about to hack into my cable/psu just yet.. but just theorising about it makes a fully functional replacement atx-psu seem not too difficult.

then again, i may be wrong.. wink.gif

well full atx psus can handel most types even 5v. its just wiring up everything right. and sence pc psus only send out whats needed to run a device it explanes why it didnt blow up the xbox. then again calling m$ and having them send a new 360 psu would saved that guy some wireing and guessing.

Not having to use a stepdown transformer is rather appealing though. Its one thing holding me back from buying at the moment (I live in a 230v country, but I will be buying a 110v 360).

I'm keeping my ear close to the ground for this sort of thing, or a safe method to mod the original PSU.

yeah the nice thing about PC PSUs is the handy switch between 220 and 110 smile.gif

I'm mostly impressed that a hack-a-day article made XS news laugh.gif

sad thing. its almost the same size as the 360 psu and does more. and doesent overheat.

pros:
1. no need for converter
2. doesent overheat.
3. size doesent matter lol the orignal psu is aruldy huge.
4. standerd pc style voltage reglation xbox probly runs better lol.

cons:
1. need to knoe wtf your doing to wire this thing up. dont whant are lesser skilld frends trying this and killing there system or psu or just burning there house down. of course thats the case with working with any types of high voltage devices.

I know there has been at least one person interested in making a metal briefcase into a potable 360, and since its been done a few times with a PC, I thought this might come in handy for his project. Another thing that might be a good idea is taking an mATX form factor power supply and doing this mod...they are even smaller and you can find them up to 250 Watts as well.

Ok, gotta give credit to Cichlid Guy who posted about this first....for whatever reason this thread seemed to get more replies.

Good to see the idea works. Now its up to someone to impliment it in a more aesthetically pleasing way. Maybe with a small form factor psu and with some heatshrink tubing.

so, in that article it mentions an extra blue wire. , anyone know what that is, i have not seen anything on these forums about it...

and ya know it would be kinda handy if someone would make an adapter so you dont have to do the splicing.
