XLink Kai Founders To Produce Commercial Online Service for Sony PSP? -- Posted by XanTium on January 16 23:10 EST
It's not really Xbox related, but we've always been following up on XLink Kai(info) stuff so I thought it'd be interesting to mention we got some leaked information from sources close to the people behind the XLink Kai tunneling software claiming that they are about to announce a new commercial PSP online gaming network - possibly as soon as Q2 this year.

Will this be a tunneling service - or something more unified - like Xbox Live!? Is it officially supported by Sony (unlikely)? Why is it a commercial product from a crew which have always contributed free services to the community? Will it get support from game developers? How is it different from the existing Kai PSP support (that will not cease to exist of course and development will continue) - justifying a price tag?

Notable members of Kai's technical crew have either resigned or gone missing over the last few months - so this story could have some weight.
Looking over XLink's site gives nothing away, and attempts to contact the resigned members have gone unanswered.

figures.... these people working on kai have done a great job on there project, its not suprising to me that a major corp. like sony would offer to buy them out, but this is all open scorce so all they can do is offer the people that made it a shit load of money to work for them.

I thought M$ would have tried this before anyone, especially with kia-xlink.

I hope that Sony dosent buy them,,, one thing is funding, or sponsoring.. but if sony buys them.... it migth close the doors to the other consoles?.. ...

THe psp is the 2nd biggest room on kai.. next to xbox....

the reason M$ didnt buy them was because they got live...

KAI is a great group.. I just hope it dosent corrupt..

I dont think Sony will buy them..... Sony has Infra mode on their new games.... but who knows...

Why would sony buy them if they can easily create their own?

beause the kia network is already established if sony started today on making there own online thing it would take a long time to get the network setup for it... but the kia guys already have all the hardware done sony just wants to come in and buy it...

I would gladly pay for any Nintendo DS service offered by XLink Kai.

But for PSP... the service is already there, so I don't see a point unless games start integrating it into their UIs.

Because it would be much cheapter to just buy them instead of paying engineers/programmers.

If you log onto xlink kai's tunnel program, you will see PSP along with xbox, PS2, xbox 260, etc as one of the networks to connect to...so I would say that the rumor is true.

Dont know if its true, but i dont believe rumors. I dont think sony can buy kai because that would be like buying a part of MS and nintendo...which kai cannot make money from because it supports systemlink not live or whatever online gaming that costs money.

...if sony buys kai, kai would have to shut down all other consoles, which i doubt seeing happen because xbox is waaaaay more populated than PS or PSP. The media usually twists these stories around to make u guys wanna keep coming back for more. How much money is xbox-scene making everytime one of you click on an AD? This story is probably 95% BS and 5% fact.

Long live kai cool.gif

If Sony manage to snap Kai for it's online gaming platform I can see it taking off. But if it's a solo project I think many poeple will shun the service and use the limited infrastructure mode or another free tuneling service.

But if Kai can some how pull off a online service compatable with most if not all wireless routers and access points they could be onto a winner.
