Xbox 360 Dashboard/LIVE Update Coming? No BC update till March? -- Posted by XanTium on January 20 22:02 EST
From computerandvideogames.com:
[QUOTE]
According to internet reports from Norwegian website IT Avisen, Microsoft are currently finalising a large Xbox Live Update. Along with useful bug fixes and tweaks - such as the ability to perform downloads in the menu background - the update is said to contain support for the console's elusive webcam, rumoured to be hitting stores soon.

From activexbox.com:
[QUOTE]
We've been informed today that there are going to be no more Backward Compatibility updates released for the Xbox 360 until March at the earliest. Microsoft's David Reid has stated that the team who do the BC work are on holiday throughout January and will start work on priority titles when they return. But from what it sounds like, there will be only a few more updates released through 2006.

Oh ya that would be awesome if I could play an arcade game while downloading something from the marketplace rather then watching the download progress. Thanks for the news Xbox-Scene.

Yeah, this would be great. There is no reason why I shouldn't be able to play Geometry Wars while I download a demo. SATA, right? 3 cores, right?
And the webcam. The good. The bad. And most likely the ugly. I can't wait for Eye-Toy-Esque games to start coming out. I see a little Xbox Live Arcade Boxing, maybe. Now THAT would be sweet.

I can't wait until we start seeing people with their 360 cams taking pictures of their asses and other body parts and using them for games that support flags or character faces or skins.

you know it's coming.

Does the webcam enable video chat through live headset too? It would be nice to put a face to the smack talker in the room.

I'm glad I recently got an Xbox. Having one to fall back on takes away the frustration of MS not giving much of a shit about 360 BC. It's looking to be a tertiary feature they don't plan on supporting much. I really hope Nintendo doesn't go with the same gameplan.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun though. If by summer, things are not smoother and a ton more games get added, I'm just going to consider BC a failure and not bother putting the Xbox in the closet with my PS1 (soon to be joined by a PS2).

Only a few more BC updates for 2006? BC is becoming a joke. We'll be lucky to see 50%

As much as I wanted to deny it, I knew somewhere in the back of my head that the BC was a gimick at best. When it was announced early last year that things would be compatible, I was exstatic; this is what made me put $50 down in May for a preorder and another $50 in July at a seperate place (you know, just in case there was a shortage). When I heard it was emulation profiles, much like drivers for Mame, i cringed but though MS might be able to pull this off. Then I head that it was going to be their most popular titles at first. Im glad they updated that for Splinter Cell, or honestly Id have put this up on Ebay....other than Live Arcade It's the only thing Ive been playing on the 360.

To put it mildly, im pissed. BC was a feature they touted. Frequent Updates. Popular Titles. Blah blah blah. Halo2 does NOT work correctly. Burnout 1-3 is not emulated. Chronicles of Riddick is not emulated.

No, they didnt promise these games would work. But they did allude to it, and I fell for it. Good thing I kept one Xbox.

im really glad they are allowing people to download and do other task at the sametime. 360 is more then powerful enought to support downloading while playing games. Even real 360 games not just Live Arcade. If my P4 3ghz can download and play games then the 360 should have no troubles at all.

Honnestly who really cares about BC really, how many of you actually play Xbox games on the 360? Thats whats your Xbox is for.

I only tried it the first day for Halo2 and a couple other games but thats been it, I much rather they put all that effort into developing for the 360. Think of all the man hours they must of spend on BC, now think if they would of added that time to other developments prior to release. Total wast of time in my opinion.

Yes well, you forget that soon you won't be able to buy an Xbox. No more graphics core, no more Xbox. So, the people who break their xbox or don't have one yet are screwed -- unless MS has BC. However, I think the biggest reason MS did it was because NR and PS3 were talking trash about how x360 didnt have BC.

Anyways, they need BC because no more Xboxes.
