I got a 0102 on a friends 360 i've chipped some weeks ago. Some days ago he 's got a pixeled screen and after reboot he got the three light of death. I renewed the termal paste of the GPU and now it's better then before, but it still freezes when I try to play a game, but no red light after reboot. I will try the renew the termal paste of the CPU today after work. In my case I think it's a termal problem.
Thanks to all in this tread for posting!

Even Xbox 360 consoles that have the 'Microsoft' sticker underneath the faceplate tampered with, or removed? Just wondering, because my sticker has been removed (cut in half) but my console has never been opened. My shipment box to get my 360 replaced should be coming today. I doubt they'll still accept it, but it's worth a try. The manufacturing date was before Jan (10-10-05). I bought my 360 on the release and it died in June, finally giving it a shot a fixing it. wink.gif

Also, I just got back from Purolator, just sent away. I sure do hope they accept it with my cut sticker!

i'm going to go out on a limb after talking to many people about their error 0102 and say it's GPU related, possible bad solderjoints, overheating, whatever, but of the GPU

Actually the service rep that handled my repair ticket, actually said it was a possible cold solder joint, and that it was not a good sign. He didn't specify what joint it could be, but there is something loose for sure.

As for the questions about the "ms" sticker, well I think it's a safe bet that the system won't be repaired with it missing. I was sooooo close to opening my system, but I heard this news first so I never removed the sticker. But good luck to those being sent in.

And someone asked about the manufacture date. It is on the back of the console with the serial number.

Are you sure they have no other ways to check if it's been opened?

The sticker under the faceplate is the 1st check method for warranty.. They can also see if there is visable case damage on the back where the clips are

Well, it's never been opened. Just a sticker removed, will they still accept it? Also, if it's not accepted, am I able to pay a repair fee?

Hello, just an update to the heatgun meathod. I was having error 0021 and i did the heatgun trick and IT WORKED!!

the console would not turn on at all before, would give 3 red light right away, but now it boots up just fine. I am still in the process of doing intense training but will update as I move along

I'm consistently getting error code 0102. Luckily, I don't have to try the heat-gun method since I never opened the console. When I called, they said the warranty had been extended to 6 months - so I just made my cut-off. (Sorry to rub it in anyone's face who was brave enough to open the console)

I do have a couple quick statements/questions:

1 - The support guy on the phone told me it could take 3 weeks to repair the console after they receive it from me. For anyone that has sent their console back to MS, is this a typical timeframe or does it typically get returned in a shorter timeframe?

2 - My 0102 error doesn't appear to be related to my HDD since it occurs with it removed as well. For anyone that has sent their machine back to MS, did they return your original HDD to you with a new/refurbished console, or is the HDD a new/refurb. as well? I'm concerned that I'll lose my dowloads that I paid for because their warranty clearly states they are not responsible for lost data on the HDD.

3 - I've heard some nasty stories about people getting really crappy refurbished consoles. What experiences have people here had?

4 - When you add up all the time I'm going to be offline (4 days to get a box from them, 3 weeks for them to fix it, and probably another 4 days to get it back to me) - you're looking at over a month of being offline. I asked the guy at the support desk what they planned to do to compensate me and he said I'd have to call and ask for Xbox Live when I get it back (but he didn't say what they would do). Years ago, when my brother had issues with his original Xbox and he yelled at enough people on the phone they shipped him a copy of Project Gotham I. What experiences have users here had as far as compensation from MS goes for these hardware failures (no, that's not supposed to be a joke...)?

I have recently been a victim of the 360 not booting and a black screen. I would occasionaly get an E79 which is supposedly a HDD error. I can't tell you what my secondary code is because I replaced the led's with a single color. Anyway, I tryed the heat gun method and it worked biggrin.gif . Or it could just be that completely disassembling and reassembling my 360 fixed it. Who knows. I've only played it for about an hour so far. If anything else pops up I will post.

Thanks to whoever for the heat gun trick.

Hi, I just registrered here to try and you help you guys out. smile.gif

I'm almost 100% sure the E 73 is caused by the 360 being to cold when first booted up. I recently moved my 360 up to my room and in the morning it's probably around 10 degress celcius here or even colder and it always show E 73 when first powered up. If I start it again it works perfectly.

I found no way to edit my last reply so here's another one.

After testing it out some more I'm pretty sure it's condensation that's causing E 73. I'm not sure what it does to the electronics, but it's never good to have water in your electronics. smile.gif

I don't get the error when I cool down my xbox, but if I play on it for a while so it's heated up and then turn it off and cool it down, I get the error when I turn it back on again. This is probably why it happens every morning when I turn it on as it was hot when I turned it off the night before and it cooled down rapidly in my bedroom.
