Hi all. Im also having the 0102 code.

On my board the glitch seems to be on the GPU. Normally the system freez when trying to play a game.
First I thought it was the dvd-rom that was the problem because of lag when surfin menues and so on. (in-game, madden07). The system have always worked fine as long as you havent played..

Although boot difficulties comes up right after a lockup. And, 5 mins ago when trying to boot after a lockup, i got graphic glitches and another lockup right on the "360" opening screen. Here is where i could determine the "GPU glitch". The pattern changed when pressing the heatsink. And damn that heatsink is getting hot!

Just wanted to say that my observations support the bad solder theory. Another thing that supports it, is that various people have "glitches" on different components.

So I will try the hot airgun fix on friday, after practice. Wish me luck biggrin.gif

I E 69, and my HDD would no longr work. My friends, would, however, when they brought theirs over. So, I went out and bought a new HDD, and now this one isn't working. What's wrong?

I get this all the time when starting my 360 up, the box also makes this screeching noise. The error code on the tv says E65. All I do is restart the xbox and it works fine until the next time I try to start it up. This is bugging the crap out of me.

A friend told me to try the latest firmware, because that may be the issue (got a sammy). Xbox-scene suggests it is the HDD that's messed up, personally I have no idea.

Restarting seems to solve it, but I'm really looking for a permanent solution so that it doesn't come back the next time I boot it up. Any ideas?

Oh, and it only happens when I start the box for the first time in a while.

Just had to register this forum to tell my experiments. I bought dead xbox last week and it gave me 0020 code. i read that this had come someone when he tried hot gunning 0102. Just hour ago i tried hotgun method for my mb and notised that pcb warps quite a lot when its heated. Carefully looking GPU from side that holds video and power connectors I could see that corner GPU pins had come off the pcb. Now I just gave more heat and pressed GPU down with piece of wood and kept pressing when stopped heating. Now pins are connected. Let it cool for a while and then connected power and av cable (note didn't have dvd drive with me) and powered up. Now I get error code 0021 which is quite a improvement. Maybe this now comes because no dvd drive connected. Could someone confirm that does 0021 come when dvd is missing? I'll try to take macro picture where thoce pins can be seen.

Hi all,
This is my first post, firstly i would like to thank all the people who wrote of there problems and solutions.

My error code is 0102 the std problem code and this id how i solved it on my machine. (you mad find this a strange but true solution to the way i solved this problem.

1. first i tried putting on new heat sink to gpu paste but this did not do anything. (i to had the silver sheet between the sink and gpu.

2. i changed over the washers onto the underside as to lower the gap between the gpu and sink ( this did not do anything either.

3. Time for a changed a direction. I noticed that the fans on the board where going slow but still keeping the main sink cool where as the GPU chip was over heating. I then found out that the fan speed was controlled only by the main Big sink and not the GPU so here is the mad bit. i covered up the 3/4 of one side and the top of the sink with tape in the hope this would slow down the airflow through the chip and increase the fan speed thus, keeping the GPU chip cooler.

4. I also made an air diversion out of sticky tape (dont think this did anything ) This was to allow more air to be sucked from the GPU chip than the Main chip.

5. BINGO this worked the fans now spin faster and keep the GPU cool and no more freezing or blocking and the main cpu runs a little hotter but not that hot as to set off the heat switch.

here are some pics.

I will upload later as i need to find out how sorry.

The thinking behind my idea was to get the fans to spin faster and therefore cool the GPU chip and the only way i could see how to do this was blocking off the air flow on the main chip. I am no way a expert and i do not now how the fans work, all a now is if the cpu gets hotter the fans speed up so why not get the cpu a little hotter and get the fans going a little faster and gingo the GPU and CPU both get cooled down to gether.

What have you got to loose a bit of sticky tape try it before to go and buy some new heat sink paste.

Hope my input as been of some use to someone

mines been working great now for acouple of days i will post again to let you guys now how i'm getting on.

by the way i live in England but the temp in my lads bedroom is around 24 - 26 deg C.

P.S.
Basically i was did not fancy the air blower trick as i might melt the board.

Today down my local game station i found and new three fan box that bolts to the back of your xbox and allows more air to be sucked from it. The cost was £19.99 but if you haven't already cracked the seal it might be worth a shot before doing anything else and voiding your warrenty mine was already over so i opened mine and did my version of increasing the fan speed myself.

my xbox is still running fine with the above mod but if you haven't opened your box then try it the lady in the shop says its worked on loads of xboxes that have been playing up.

i dont think thats a "no dvd" error- when i have no dvd drive my box still boots up and gets into the dashboard. i didnt try running anything off hdd at that point but ive seen two different 360s boot with no dvd drives

what is the manuf date on your xbox? it might still be under warranty

i tried the Niko 3 fan system on my first 360 but the rate of freezing steadily increased until it would freeze and give 3 red LED error within 5 seconds of boot- the XBOX logo would show, then it would freeze right there and blink

ms repaired it, ive used it for 3 weeks and it is freezing within 5 mins of gameplay in dead rising, splinter cell and saints row

the cooler seemed to have no effect on the freezing for me in either case. time to send the xbox in again...

hi mate i got a few ppl ringing me with error code e66 after the update.

i think microsoft have bricked the 360s using error code e66 i am lucky enough to have not got this error message as my firmware is older than recent firmwares but yes i think it is a 360 upgrade clashing with your firmware mate.

Heres a thought. I can recreate the error codes people recieve on the box. How???? Well the USB Power is also the fan power, the controller power and at some point is branched as power for GPU MEM... well look at the back of an intercooler (nyko). look at the wires it intercepts, those are the USB wires. now put just a LITTLE bit more of an amperage draw on them, your choice how you do it. i did it with 2 fans running at 1.8 Amps and 12 volts. and guess what.. lol

0110 error!!!!!, i think there is not enough amperage supplied to power all things on the board. and it glitches out the memory, GPU or the like or some 0102 BS! on top of bad solder joints, and cooling issues if you got them. But yea, this amerage is definately a problem if they plan on splicing it so many ways!

I've added both E71 and E66 to the guide,

Though, could someone do me a favor and extract the 4 digit secondary code from an E71 and E66 console? I'd like to add it to the FAQ guide (credit will be givin of course)

If you do this please PM me the results

thanks beerchug.gif

Error code E76 shown on screen:

Apparently this is an unknown error, but i believe it's a HD error. Was playing PGR3 when the box crashed while accessing one of the download packs. Had E76 on the screen every time I restarted. Unpluged everything, plugged the lot back in, re-downloaded the update packs, problem solved it runs like a dream again!
