Ok here's my story on a 0102 error.

I've had the 0102 error for a couple of days and decided to look for some info on the net and found the heat gun fix! So i took the box apart and started heating it up. All went well untill i touched the GPU accidentally right after heating the GPU up!!! So it moved slightly and solder came out from underneath. Well.... i'm fucked i thought.

So i took a bit of the solder away and prayed to god to boot up my box normally. Of course god couldn't help me with this one and all i got were 3 red light and a 0003 code. Which i assume is a short circuit in the GPU, somewhere.

So..... can anyone help me out with this one? Can i take the GPU out if i heat it up and try and refit it somehow ? Or anything else i can do besides taking a big fat stone, tie it to my box and throwing it from a skyscraper.

Sup people, just thought i would fill you in on this 0102 error code. It has been traced to bad/ seperated GPU connections due to the GPU overheating (360 design flaw). This can be fixed and corrected so it dont happen again. I have posted all this information in the hardware forums at Xbox.com Click here to read
To sum it up real quick, Do The Heat-Gun trick on the GPU only, replace the stock thremal compound with Antecs Formula 5 silver thermal compound and install a fan on the GPU heatsink or go water cooling and the 0102 is a thing of the past.
After extensive testing i repaird mine back in late NOV 06, stress tested for over 50hrs non-stop and its used everyday for hours on end. Its been flawless ever since. The link above includes alot of information, Pictures and videos.
peace

Hi, first post!

Question to duckman. After reading this from your youtube video post "Check your Video cables 1st, if everything turns out fine then this fix should work. The GPU provides the picture you see on the TV etc.. If just ONE connections is bad on the GPU it could cause no video but also not trigger a hardware fault 3-red lights."

Do you think my GPU is to blame for my three red lights and 0102 error. Before it happened I was getting some weird glitches. If the console had been on more than ten minutes and I turned it off then back on, I would get no display on the tv (sometime sound , others not) but the green leds would cycle ok. Also after about ten minutes If I changed from PAL 50 to PAL 60, or vice versa, the screen would go mental/ fuzzy/ jaggy ( my tv supports PAL 60). Yet if I changed them as soon as I turned the 360 on they would work.

I think I have no other option than to try your method, as my console has been opened to add different fans, and I have the three red lights constant know !!

Ok this is my first post and I am goign to try to help you people out if i can. All the error codes for hardware errors including 0102 have different ways of fixing them. Now I asume most of you have these problems and have NO warranty left with M$. Open the damn Xbox 360 and disconect ALL the cables inside basically takign it apart. Turn it on you will get multiple error codes now. Now turn it off and put the whole thing back together piece by piece. I do not have an explination for why this works for MOST hardware errors but I fix these things at the store I work at and it seems to work 99% of the time for me.

When it comes to Disc read errors I hate to say it but the way that has never failed me is falshing the drive with Xtreme firmware 4.2 and up. It is a difficult process but when the drive stops reading it is usally because there has been a problem with the firmware in the DVD drive.

I had this problem with my XBox personaly of it overheating and fixed it by unscreweing the heatsinks and putting them back in place. The heatsinks can move around if the xbox has been dropped also very common from it just falling over. The fan not workign is also a common problem I have seen but if you notice this is why M$ has now come out with an external cooling fan for the system. I have recommended thsi to many people and it has worked for most. I have seen 1 or 2 cases of the over heating that could not be repaired and M$ sent them a NEW system.

Other causes that I have seen for the hard ware errors occuring have been from the Hard Drive itself. If your system has shut down before finishing saving a game or even if you have manually shut it off in the middle of an auto save in the game it is possible that the hard drive has become corrupt itself in which case you need to take it apart and hook it up to a sata port in your computer and reformat it with a 360 re-formatter that is availabel on a different site then this one. To determien if this is your problem just remove the hard drive and turn it on. if it works without the hard drive on it then you are probabley haveing this problem. This can bring up error codes from heating problems all the way to Unreadable disc errors.

yes , you have a short for sure , and hopefully nothing else is burnt too, if you could take out the chip and reinstalling it , this will fix the problem , but thats only possible by a very experienced technician,i remember doing that once in an xbox 1 but im not sure i could do that again

Duckman or whoever can answer this question would be greatly appreciated. Before you use the heatgun, do i clean the compound around the GPU and CPU because i saw your YouTube video and i wasn't sure if you cleaned around them. Please answer ASAP because i want to fix my 360 now, lol.

Clean off the thermal compound before heating the board then redo the compound after.

I used the heat gun method on a broken, opened, xbox360 that I just got and it started working perfect for about a week. Backed up a game and when it loaded for the first time, the xbox quit working. Now I get the E79 with the 1033 code without a HDD. Wondering if there was anyone else who had this problem, but seemed to fix it or have it go away.
