its overheating. do the xclamp fix if you havent. and if you have clean the gpu/cpu off and redo the thermal paste and put it back together it should work fine.

Guys,

Any news about what E73 - 1021 is? I think it is more than clear now, based on all experiences we found in the forums worldwide that this is not an ethernet problem. No one can fix it after replacing the ethernet connector or chip, it only gets worst turning into E74. Anyone was successful on fixing E73 - 1021?

hey guys!
i'm new here but i've been reading this forum for a while now and it's been very helpful to me so far. now i have my first set of questions smile.gif. i recently got a rrod xbox 360 and decided i would try to fix it as i've been reading about the massive success rate of the xclamp fix so i got to work and took the console apart. what seems disturbing to me is the lower part of the motherboard which shows some corrosion. i know at least one other person here encountered this a few years back and i was wondering if any1 got to the source of it.
is there any point in cleaning it? what should i use to clean it? does it affect the console behaviour? can i do anything to avoid it getting worse?
my theory is it's probably pretty old (the corrosion) and also probably due to bad storage conditions prior to its sale as i don't leave near the sea or in a high humidity area..

thanks!

ps: here are some pics:

well my 360 has decided to 1020 on me, and i tinkered with it a bit. apparently it was "refurbeshed" when i bought it as it had the x clamp replaced and a 12v mod for the fan, which annoyed the crap out of me. anyways, as i tinkered, i removed the heatsinks to find they never cleaned the old TIM off, and just added new stuff that oozed out and was dipping down the mobo a little, completely covering 2 diffrent diode like things near the gpu. after i cleaned and put the sinks back on i got 0031, which i fixed by loosening the sink a little. so i thinks 0031 is a smashed gpu problem. or possibly cpu... oh well thought id throw in my 2 cents. now to actually try heatgunning the board.

I just bought 3 xbox's for $100 bucks becuase of RROD and 2 of the 3 had the same corrosion as yours does, pretty much in the same area.

I have a idea where it might have came from, when you think about the 360 it gets pretty hot on the inside, and if cool air is being drawn in through the vents, something happens (i forgot what its called) and you get condensation...

Those are my 2 cents

I just tried out the oven fix on a friends the other day and set the sinks on top just to boot it, it booted fine. Today I tried it and got a 0020, I think this may be caused by a short in the gpu sink on one of the resistors because I set a camera on top of the heatsink to level it out and it went away. It boots every time. So if you tried a fix and still have a problem make sure the sink is properly secured. That oven fix worked wonders so I doubt it broke again. I honestly think it was a short.

After getting 3RROD, did xclamp on it, then got error 0002. Loosened the CPU clamps (realized it was too tight), and it now works great.

Seems like some of the codes come up as a result of it being too tight after the replacement.

after further investigation with some more experienced electronics guys i've reached the conclusion that it's probably nothing to worry about as it's most likely just residue from the manufacturing process. that console has been working great for couple of weeks now.

I recently fixed a console succesfully with the x-clamp fix, but I actually failed to even check what the RROD secondary code was before I fixed it. That is kind of beside the point, but what I was really wondering is if the x-clamp fix will only work on secondary error "0102", or will it work on pretty much any overheating code such as "0020" and "0013"?

Thanks A Lot!

Got a 0102 a year ago, so I did the X Clamp Fix.
Got it again two months ago, so I used the heat gun method.
Worked fine until today. I transferred the Xbox from my room to the living room and wanted to watch a movie (Die Hard 4.0... fuckyeah, baby biggrin.gif).

First it popped out an E74 error. Turned it off, unplugged everything, plugged everything back in and tried to turn it on again.
Now I get a RROD with a secondary code of 0100.
I know nobody knows what 0100 means, but does some method fix it?

I'm getting really pissed off with the console... sad.gif

Well i have not had that code yet, but I would do the basics.

Check missing/broken componets, reflow gpu, cpu, ana, and ram chips.

If all else fails part it out.

New Secondary Error code.

0024

(not yet known)

or... At this moment my xbox is taken apart. no screws in the x-clamps or in the front led piece. I just wanted to share if anyone else has/will get this.

Edit:

I wasn't thinking, it was 0023.

I forgot 4 flashing= 3, not a 4 lol.
