Hi,

I am considering installing modchips for those that are not so well skilled in the soldering department or feel that this type of activity is beyond them.

What id like to know is, is installing modchips legal or illegal and am i safe to advertise my service in say my local shop or newspaper.

Ive thought about it and the fact that you can readily buy these chips makes me think they are legal as long as you intend to use them for legal activitys!

Can someone advise me on this subject

I believe the installation itself is legal, its with the bios that you tread the line. As far as I know the only "legal" bios is the cromwell flash bios. Could be wrong, but thats my thought on it anyways. I'm sure any games on the hdd are definately illegal unless you own the original copies, including roms.

Every time this question comes up here, and not a week or two goes by that it doesn't, everyone comes out of the woodwork to argue.

Fact is, if you want sound legal advice, talk to a lawyer. One knowledgable in such matters as well as the laws and rulings of your nation/locale.

Beyond that, muse the legality and IPR snafus that a hacked bios, MS copyrighted property, would entail in the meantime.
