i decided to make this post after about an hour and a half of trying to get 2 gaps in the skate park that just arent registering; hopefully twisted can help beerchug.gif

gap guide being used - http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/thaw_gaps.txt

alright, the ones im currently having trouble on are : BANZAI POOL DROP 3 and NO WALLPLANTING!

#1 - BANZAI
i do exactly as the txt says and end up acid dropping into the pool on the side by the wall near the power generating thing: ive even tried acid dropping into the pool near the bleachers... i must have done this 100 time yet it never registers, free skate and in story...

#2 - WALL
for the no wallplanting one im using the red pillar with the caution sign thats near the humps... the text says something about a kicker but theres not one there... ive tried it from the wooden rail, the little ledge bellow the rail, the flat leading up to it and from the humps(from which it cant be reached), all have been wallplanted from to grind on the green rail that ends over the humps heading toward the big half pipe...

any tips anyone can think of? ill see if i can get some video of me trying ul'ed somewhere... thanks in advance...

both of those are in the vans skate park right?

the Banzai Drop 3 took me a few tries

Basically when you enter the level, if you go straight you'll hit this unbelievably large garage door, facing the door the clover pool is to your left and forward on the other side of the bleachers. The leaf of the clover closest to where you are standing at the door is what you want to drop into.

you want to start the gap on top of that garage door (what the gap guide guy refers to as "the green thing up there"). I used a different method of getting up there then he did, and I found it a lot easier. While facing the door there's a raised walk way area to your right above the ramps. if you go behind the ramps there's a path that will get you up to the walk way. Above this path is a rail attached to the wall. If you wall plant/wally/grind onto that rail it will lead you up toward getting on top of the garage door. It really doesn't matter how you get up there, just know that you need to get up there.

There are essentially 3 things, the garage door your on, and two pipes next to the top of the garage door on the clover pool side, you need to jump over the first pipe and land in a grind on the second, the pipe will curve around and lead you right to the pool, before it ends jump and pull the trigger to do an acid drop for the gap.

You need to be grinding on that specific pipe for the gap to work.

As for the NO WALLPLANTING! gap, this one took me one or two tries but is pretty easy overall.

I think you're looking in the wrong place. the post with the sign isn't near the humps, it's in the back corner of that area near the corner of the raised walk way. There's a sign about level with the walk way above you that says "no wall planting" with the picture of a skater, if you're facing that sign directly behind you is another post with a tiny little ramp smoothing out the base of the pillar. go up off of that and back down to get some speed, then back towards the no Wall planting pillar and off the kicker in front of it, (I actually did a sticker slap off of it even though the gap guide says you can't), then there is a rail about level with the floor of the walk way, you need to grind on that after slapping the wall. I want to say I tried it once or twice before it registered, and it registered when I did a sticker slap just below the sign.

BTW you can't link directly to GameFAQs articles so you just have to link here:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox360/game/928296.html

also if you're having a LOT of trouble this helps http://thps3.net/THAW/

I used it to help with a couple gaps in the ruins and the casino that I just couldn't figure out from the gap guide description.

BTW the hardest gap in the game is easily the last gap in the Vans Park wink.gif

Oh yeah, and the ONLY level with gaps that you need to get in story mode is the Skate Ranch, every other level in the game you can get all the gaps in freeskate. And don't forget to save in freeskate mode, it wont prompt you to save, nor will it auto save.

sweet deal, thanks beerchug.gif

yeah the 'natas for the win' gap took me 27 tries using the standing start natas' method... a lot easier but still damn challenging... biggrin.gif

just got both gaps in under a minute... the wording and placement of the objects had thrown me off on both gaps... rolleyes.gif

well those vids were very helpful... ive only got gaps left in the oil rig, skatepark and kyoto... the skatepark and kyoto dont have vids and im a bit stuck on two gaps in kyoto: DANGER! and HIP SHOT

DANGER!: You need to Spine Transfer over the area directly in
front of you when you start. There are QPs on either side.

exactly what two qp's are you supposed to spine? ive done what seems like all of them and havent got the gap

HIP SHOT: (Hard to explain)When the level starts, turn around and
look to your left, walk up the escalator. Theres a quarter pipe
right next to you. The rail you need runs perpendicular to it and
is to your right. Its a glass/metal railing. Grind it and jump
down to the first level and land in a grind on the rail below.

found the rail, but theres no rail below it... ive grind transfered to the awning and the qp's below and no gap...

thanks beerchug.gif

ok for the DANGER! Gap

When you start the level you're inside a building, if you continue forward you'll go outside on to a sort of step/ramp area, at the very end of there's a quarter pipe just before the street...

Now if you're on ram/stair area facing the street you want to spine over the area you're standing, that is to say, go down to either the left or right side of the walk way you're on and spine over it.

As for HIP SHOT... I'm a little hazy on what exactly I did (and I don't have the game any more to try this out) but I THINK the rail you're supposed to start on is the guard rail at the far side of the platform.

So when the level starts turn immediately right and go up the escalator to the first platform, then turn right and go all the way to the end of the platform and start on that rail. I'm not even sure if the thing you land on is a rail, I think it might be a ledge.

I could be thinking of a completely different gap. I just remember reading his description and getting completely lost so I tried a whole bunch of different things in the area until I got it.

well alright, i got the danger gap but still cant seem to make anything work with the hip shot one... ill up a vid later and maybe get some more tips...

thanks beerchug.gif

*argh... just got hip shot... to anyone else who is having trouble with this: go to the escalator area, locate the rail, then go up the next level and grind the rail going TOWARDS the start area, jump and grind on the rail/ledge that is behind you and to the right of where you start... if that simple addition of going towards the start area was in the gap guide, it would have saved me soo much frustration...

This may veer a bit away from the gaps topic, but as both you guys seem highly proficient at THAW I wanted to know how to complete two missions in the VANS level. 1)When I need to Natas Grind the SUV, I grind all the way to the car and then manage to do a Natas for a few seconds before I automatically fall off and 2) the BMX mission - I just can't pull of the trick I'm supposed to do. Any words of advice that you can offer?

i believe for the natas thing i just got off my board and jumped to natas... i think youre talking about the flare, in which case just backflip and spin 180... its a bit harder than the skating tricks but shouldnt take that long to get 3 of em... the tricks over hoffman's stall gave me much more trouble...

just got all the gaps, now i need to go back and do 30 more missions in normal and all of sick... do you need to do all the bike stuff? or do they just reappear like the cash and graffiti guys(assuming these guys do)?

*if anyone is confused by the wording of gaps from the text, and the videos arent helpful, post away as these bastards are fresh in my mind...
