Custom Movie Icons Folder Options

With everyone using Custom Icons, I was wondering if you can use the XBMC.xml


<thumbnails>$HOME\thumbs</thumbnails>

and change it to a remote path on the network

<thumbnails>smb:\\computer\Movie Icons</thumbnails>
so you can have Movie Icons--->mymovie1.tbn, mymovie2.tbn.....custom icons and XBMC will use these in the icon list?

-if not then is there another way

I dont like putting all the thumbnail.tbn custom icons in the directory with the movies (looks messy). Also, is there a way to still get the imdb info, but keep the custom movie Icon (so imdb image doesnt override the custom icon)?
