I own the red DS and I wouldn't mine getting the lite for the brighter screen but NO WAY IN HELL would I stay in line in the rain for just a brighter screen!!!

I dont even have a ds. Seems sort of bleh.
Might get a lite once the commotion dies down, and price drops to less that $100
Only games I really want for it are Bleach DS (go Treasure!) and maybe that new mario game

I've got a 360 and 2 xbox and I could careless how it looks. To me gaming is all about performance not looks (looks is just a bonus). As I recalled the PS2 slim didn't cause lines like this. I'm not a 12 years old kid with small hands so the bigger the DS the better. I don't know about you but I get some serious hand cramp after 30 min of play. Smaller DS only means more pain for me. DS Lite is just a slight upgrade not a new handheld so why are people going nuts over it? I bet you more than 75% of those crazy people already own the DS. After hrs of waiting in line in the rain and paying another $150 they can go home and play the same game their old DS could run? I just don't get it.

Everybody knows that Japan loves gadgets. It's common knowledge. So what is suprising about a gadget-loving country going mental for a new version of one of their favourite consoles?

I don't find this strange at all. Can't say I'd do the same thing myself, but I do understand where they're coming from.

Maybe that's what they think about people in the US in terms of lining up to buy the Xbox360. We may not understand why they would line up for NintendoDS just as they would not understand why we line up for the Xbox360....that's what makes the world go round....but if Nintendo got people to line for hours for the DS.....I wonder if there will be lines for the Revolution?

You neglect to mention, or did not know, that the regular DS has been sold out in Japan for quite some time; as rare as Xbox 360s have been here in the states. Not only are these systems for people who want a better looking device, for many these will be their first time getting the system.

So I guess everybody in the U.S. that has run to the store every time a new shipment of Xbox 360s came in are brainwashed? I mean, the Xbox 360 isn't even sporting a new design when it comes back in stock and yet people have still tried to get them incessantly.

Don't be such a downer on other cultures, products, or people's desires. You have the same quirks but you just never stop and look at yourself in the way you look at others.

1. Affordability is a matter of perception based on how much you as an individual can spend on entertainment.
2. How do you know they will make enough? They did not produce enough DS or DS Lite handhelds, obviously.

I still don't understand the rush for x360 over here. Great graphics and a powerful machine, but there's currently nothing in gameplay terms that tempts me to upgrade from my xbox.

I'm a lot more interested in nintendo's revolution

1.) it will be affordable
2.) they will make enough

Revolution is the most important and exciting console launch since the original NES and Nintendo knows it. I reckon they'll hit both of those targets.

The DS Lite is pretty sleek. It's much more than just a brighter screen. It's much smaller, slimmer and lightweight. I can fully understand why the japanese lined up for hours.
