i was wondering what the process of lifting a trace is. is it only the do that can de lifted or also the pinheader? thanx. Ishmo.

Anytime you use a soldering iron, you risk the possibility of burning and/or lifting traces off the motherboard. Traces are those tiny lines that run throughout the circuit board (motherboard).

could you elaborate on that? i want to know exactly how someone would screw up a mobo by bad traces. thanx! Ishmo.

Holding the soldering iron too long on a specific point. This usually occurs when people try using underpowered irons (15 watts is too low), but also happens when people aren't paying attention to what they're doing OR don't know what they're doing in the first place.
Happens all the time on the d0 via. Just pre-tin a piece of 30 gauge wire & touch the d0 for about a second or two... but people still find ways to screw that up. This post has been edited by Alex548: Mar 6 2006, 04:07 AM |
