I've never played the game, but, looking at screen shots, it seems pretty cool. Here's a link if anyone's interested. I'm not 1337 enough to port a game.

Correct URL for the source:

http://www.micro soft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6d790cde-c3e5-46be-b3a5-729581269a9c&DisplayLang=en (please remove the whitespace between "micro" and "soft").

The official website, contains some screenshots.

A fansite with a lot of info.

System Requirements for the source
MS Visual C++ 2005
MS MSBuild 2.0
4.5 GB of disk space is required during installation.

System Requirements for the game
System Requirements
486DX66 computer with 8MB RAM
45MB available drive space
SoundBlaster-compatible sound card
DOS 5.0 or later; Windows95

This might be portable, but it first should be backported to MS Visual C++ 2003. Too bad they didn't release the source of MechWarrior 4, but 2 ain't bad either. The Xbox lacks a good MechWarrior simulation (MechAssault is an arcade game), so this would be a nice addition.

Hmmm...MS releasing a game as "open source" is a feat to be considered, although the "shared source" license is very icky. Nevertheless, this would be a very welcome game on the Xbox.

I think they did this to promote/create an example for MS XNA. You need it to build MechWarrior 2. Just look at the "Related Resources" at the bottom of the page.

And I don't think MS had the idea of: "we released the source code so 'they' can port it to the Xbox". I don't even know if it is possible to port at all, but I already doubt that any developer dares to touch the source. unsure.gif

This is not MechWarrior 2, this is Mech Commander 2. It's more of a RTS game. Sort of.

I thought the game needed a bit more than a 486DX2!!!

I remember the original, and I thought the sequal needed D3D and so on?

Argh, how stupid of me. blink.gif

You are right. MechCommander 2 is an RTS-like game. How could I have mistaken it for MechWarrior?

Thanks for the heads-up. smile.gif
