I know it would require soldering a switch to an address line. I was just wondering if anyone has tried it?

Might have to look up the pinout of the chip.

Sorry if it has been already discussed. I did look through the 14+ pages. And google search is SOOO wonderful! (sarcasm)

Thanks.

Why on earth do you need 4 256k banks? The duoX2 has dual 512k's, and the extra 512k bank is as a backup in case the first ever fails and needs to be reflashed. 99% of people only ever use the one bank.

Yes it can be done and has been done.
I have never attempted it but there have been threads on here listing how to do it. i can't find one at the moment though.

Maybe he wants to be able to boot to 3-4 dashboards with external switches, alot of people do that.

Why do I need 4 banks? Why did I climb a mountain. Why did a add a LCD display to my xbox. Why did I buy another modchip when I have 3 different ones for the same xbox?

Because I can.

Why do we hack the xbox? "Because we can!!!'

The real reason is there are only a couple of 512k bios out there and many 256k ones and I am always playing with different ones so having 4 bios at the flip of a switch before having to reflash to play with another one would be helpful. Happy???

I just love people with such useful responses to questions!!!

Thanks for your help JP. I will make sure I PM you with my next question directly since I am sure you will have a good answer.

okay, the switch appears to connect to pin one of the AMD chip.

this changes the first binary value for the address.

0000--->1000 (0 --> 8)

i'm guessing the pin directly below it will will further divide it.

0000---->0100 (0 --> 4)

i.e. you will need two switches.

00 - first bank

01 - second bank

10 - third bank

11 - fourth bank

make sense?

it may not be that simple, but that's the general idea.

you need pinouts. i couldn't find anything relevant on google.

keep bumping the topic until a veteran steps forward.
