I recently upgraded the thermal compund on the processors, under the heatsinks. When i was removing the X clamps on the bottom of the mobo, i accidentally hit a tiny resistor, or encoder or something, and knocked it off the board. When i reassembled my mobo and dvd drive, i get no audio or video. Is my mobo ruined permanantly? or is there a fix for this. any help would be appreciated.

hey, pics are coming, but on the bottom of the mobo....in front of the taller heatsink...right underneath where the resistor/encoder thing sat....it reads C7U1. hopefully this helps clarify which piece broke off. i still need help with this. thanks

Well, unfortunately, i doubt that replacing this component will make the sound and audio work again.

All of the audio and video wouldn't go through one component (well, maybe, but it's unlikely), so the removal of this item probably means that another component (more important?) has burnt out.

Just throwing some ideas out. All i can suggest is check the obvious again.

The best thing to do in the future would be to not turn it on and post pics. If you can replace it before turning the system on then it shouldn't matter, but sometimes stuff like this can make other stuff get fried when the system turns on. I'm expecting the best though, good luck.

it looks like u ripped off a surface mount resistor, i would try cleaning up that scrath to make sure onthing is bridging points. try and get it replaced on the mobo but it is possible that it could have blown out or caused ap orblem with other components if it caused the current to go to high or any other problem.
