My brother's 1.0 Xbox with Aladdin was running fine for two years, then started doing the 3x reboot plus FRAG.

I disconnected the d0 point and the Xbox started up fine (though still unusable with MS BIOS since the HD is unlocked).

Checked continuity from LPC points to chip and all looks good.

BUT voltage check shows most of the LPC points are low relative to what they should be. 3.3V and 5V are fine, but the rest are all between 1.85 and 2.0, and apparently most of them (aside from LCLK and ground) should be 3.3V.

1) Is this the problem?

2) How do I fix it?

To clarify -- those low voltage readings were with chip installed. I disconnected the chip from the LPC and then the LPC points had the proper 3.3 readings, so there doesn't seem to be a soldering issue.

With chip connected, the 3.3v and 5v power points still were correct, but the other supposedly 3.3 points dropped to 1.75 to 2.0. The readings were consistent whether taken at the LPC points or at the points on the chip they were wired to, so there do not appear to be any bad connections.

Now, instead of 3x reboot and FRAG, I am not getting error code 12 - kernel - DVD parameters (PIO/DMA). This is the MS error message rather than the Superfro one despite my using Xecuter BIOS, so it doesn't seem like the chip is functioning. DVD will then not eject or do anything.

Swapped DVD, HD, and IDE cable and have the same problem. Is my chip dead?

With chip enabled (d0 connected to ground) I get the error 12 (DVD parameters); with chip disabled (d0 disconnected from ground) I get error 16 (dashboard, since I have modified dash files). Both come up as MS error messages, not as the Superfro error codes. Neither "MS" nor "xecuter" ever appear under the Xbox logo before the error message.

Should the chip be lowering the voltage on the LPC points even when not enabled?

With chip completely disconnected, voltages on LPC match what they should be -- 3.3v for most points. With chip attached (via wires from chip points to LPC points) the voltages drop to anywhere from 1.45 to 2.5 for the points that were 3.3v (except for 3.3v and 5v power points, which stay correct).

Pin 1, for some reason, is 1.45 as opposed to the .2 the diagnostics in the tutorial section say it should be.

Chip doesn't seem to be enabling properly, either. With L1 connected, I don't get the orange LED when holding power for 2 seconds to boot with chip enabled. I also don't get the Superfro error messages, only the regular MS ones.

However, enabling the chip definitely has an effect -- with chip presumably enabled (by holding power for 2 seconds, or by grounding BT so it is "always on"), I get error code 12 (DVD), while with chip disabled or disconnected I get error code 16, which I guess means that with the chip disabled, the box gets "past" the DVD problem and instead halts on the dashboard problem (because I have modified dash on the hard drive).
