They completely suck. You can not push down on the center and narrow the center "hub" to release the disc. You have to pry carefully trying to bend the disc as little as possible.

I'm going out to buy a set of DVD cases that don't suck, I have a strong feeling this is a big part of peoples cracked discs.

Yes, some games come with good cases, others come with the sh*t cases with the sprindle tower that cannot be flexed to remove the disc - I cracked Tomb Raider with this case spindle. I'm awaiting empty replacement cases to replace these, for now, I'm sticking the discs in black cases.

I guess that's what we're paying the extra $10 for for every game happy.gif

The disc was jammed so hard onto the spindle that I had to pry upwards from the edges just to get my fingers under the disc. When I did this, I got a tiny (5mm long) crack from the center.

I returned it and used a toungue depresser to pry the second disc up from the center, and promptly discarded the case.

I don't know why they did this, and I can theorize price and making sure the discs stay put during shipping. I am on the lookout for emoty cases the same color for repalcement.

Yeah, what's weird is different copies of the SAME game will even have different cases.
Maybe it has to do with where they are pressed (different cases are used?)?

This is not the first time I have heard this stuff, and I'll admit mine are hard to remove as well.

i think this is why my copy of oblivion cracked...the crack kept growing the more i played, now it's unplayable (and stopped working for good just before pressing activate on the final quest's last part)

wow. we have come to this.
complaining about the game cases. now I've heard it all.

I've come across some dandy cases in my time... I can't honestly
say I can see how anyone can crack a Disc from ANY case.

Anyone who'd pry out and wreck a $40-$60 disc has got issues.

It takes a hell of a lot to wreck a disc.

Well, get a few games, you're bound to get a new case. The spindle in the center doesn't flex or "squash" down. It is a rigid "tower" of plastic - you'll notcie it has a "1" printed on it.

The disc was stuck so hard, that yes, the disc did crack under the force of removal - actually, it did not slide off until the disc cracked. I know how to handle discs, and your insult was not warranted fanboy.

The fact that you cannot believe this shows you have not seen the case - I know I had not until Tomb Raider. And Like a previous poster stated, it's wierd because it's not game specific, some games have a couple disfferent cases.

Yes. The above is a correct statement. So yes, until I actually see one
of these cases and experience cracking a disc myself... I still stand behind my comments
(insulting or not) and find it hard to believe that someone would go as far to crack a disc
getting it out of the case.
I know if I had a disc that was THAT hard to get out, I'd really really really be careful
getting it out, and would not cause the disc too much stress, as a broken disc
is useless to me and probably unreturnable to a store. (at least around here)
I'd rather cause damage to the case just to get the disc out safely.
I'm not sure how I'd do it based on your description of how the spindle seems to be
pretty solid, but there must be a better way.

...sorry. Not trying to tick anyone off here, just stating my opinion.

I made a post about this a few days ago when I bought Battlefield 2: Modern Combat.

The disc has a circle center and yet the case has a square peg holding it in?

Square + Circle = ???

WTF were they thinking. Because of this shitty case design i chipped the inner edge of the plastic, I will be trading in my old game for a new one and I plan to open my case there and forcing them to switch my case with another.

This is rediculus and I am considdering calling MS about this. As small as this may seem this is a serious issue.

I have 4 360 games... PDZ, Kameo, PGR3 & Oblivion and never have had any of the problems you all are speaking of.

PDZ and Need For Speed are your typical flex spindel for me. BF2 was a solit one PITA to get the DISC out, GRAW was a nightmare for me. It literaly took me 5 minutes easy geeting that disc out. blink.gif

I think If we all together signed something and sent it to MS they MAY look into it. I know they don't control the cases but they might be able to help out regardless.
