Does any body know if we could get the correct version of zlib from an SDK of something....
The standard C++ zlib doesnt proerly compress and decompress the .ca2 file.

Ok... you bashed on me before over cars.ca2. Yet, you can't even decompress cars.ca2? Have you even opened the file in a hex editor and looked at it? At all? I found a crappy german zlib command line program that worked right and another one that works just fine too. I would post links but I'm not on my computer so...

O btw... I'm hoping to have an extracter for the track textures in the game... Gonna take a while. I have to look into the files some more. Having a resolution problem....

I have extracted the contents and repacked them.

Like I have said before repacking them is easy. Modding the files is a whole different story. I had never expected the problem I ran into. Took me awhile to figure it out too. If you look hard and think and do some internet searching you too can mod the files and repack them. However, I am not telling you how to, but I am leaving a skillfully placed trail of bread crumbs for you to follow.

All the files are the mostly the same layout, and many use zlib.

If you have modded Halo 2 maps, another sign stands in front of you. But you must think the same before beginning.

Please post a couple of screenshots happykillmore, as the ones in the first post don't load anymore.

I can't get screenshots or record video... sorry... S-video input on my vid card doesn't work anymore. The screen has a lot of static and bars running up and down the screen, you can barely see anything at all. I think I broke it when I tried to pull my tower out and forgot to unplug the S-video. Besides, I have now switched my devotion to Forza 2. I want to get mods working on that now. I'm gonna talk to DOS4GW later this year to see if he can create a new forum or sub-forum within this one.

I actually signed up just for this. I'm sorry to be a dick, but wouldn't it be useless/futile to make a sub-forum when you cats have not even released mods for the original? I can understand not wanting people to use your software maliciously, but at the same time, it seems really unfair to people that are not malicious.
This is not really a plea for the software's release; I suspect that it will never be released.
It just seems raw to get people's hopes up when all you guys seem capable of is dashing them.
I understand that it is our fault just as much as it is yours, but that does not make it any less weak.

For being a little hobby project that no one has any time for, you cats sure are taking this seriously. For me, I just kinda wore the game out, and would like to have some fun messing with it. Modding or "Hybriding" is the only reason that I played Gran Turismo 3 as long as I did. People on this forum may not admit to it, but I think that Forza will seem just as shitty as GT3 sooner or later. We might as well have fun with it before we are spoiled by better software.

Just my 50,000 cents. I've been checking back every few months since this thread originated, and all I see is more people asking after this software, and people replying "It'd mess it up for everyone, so no one can have it". Whatever. I suppose this post reflects poorly on me, since I have the time to write it.

Well, I hope that was not too inflammatory. It is not my intention to attack anyone, I just wanted to show my perspective.

Sure, whatever. Meet me at XLink anytime if you dare smile.gif

Good luck editing gamedb.slt (?) in MEDIA/DB.
It's a sqlite3 file which you can look at with commands such as

sqlite3 gamedb.slt .dump |less

and edit with similar programs

If you are using hexedit on an image of the game-dvd, seach for "SQLite format 3". It's 6584320 bytes long.

I'm sorry but you can only pour so much gasoline onto a lit match before it fires back into your face. You, like Kudoz, have none better to do but bitch and complain about the .ca2 files. For fucks sake, there are programs on the net that you can use to mod the files, find them and use them. But is more difficult to do. Do what everyone else has done, and do it yourself. Your just showing a bad side because you want someone to make you a program to make up for your stupidity and ignorence to learn. I tried to get a program a while back, then I resorted to learning C++ and making my own. But it is really slow and I have since realized hex modding it is quicker (Or atleast it seems so to me).

Yet you say we don't know shit about the files or the game. Well then, shine your light and brilliance down upon me, Sir. What could you possibly know, or have done, that others or I already don't?

I also recommend taking your "50,000 cents" down to your local Wal-Mart and buying a bottle of Johnson and Johnson "No more tears" shampoo and a box of tampons to cope with your PMS. Just quit crying already.

By the way I quit with the texture files since they have mip-maps and it's too much of a pain and I still can't make sense out of the resolution tables, since there are two of them. I quit.... Forza 2 is next.

Thanks (?) Forzadude2... I guess?...

Heh, I don't mean to get into a flamewar, but I don't recall ever saying you don't know anything.
Why did you resort to insults so quickly. It is like, some people already have the code, but are determined that everyone needs to write their own software to mod an xbox game.
Ever take a moment to consider that some people are not really interested in learning to program?
Isn't it a little hypocritical to talk down at me for having nothing better to do when you obviously don't have much going on yourself?
I guess your parents never taught you about sharing your toys smile.gif

Goodbye xbox-scene.

I had a bad day. Don't learn to program then. You don't need a program. it makes large and extensive modding easier and reduces steps. Hex edit then. a lot more steps and a little complicated but that way you don't need to program. and the .cab archive, it is split into 4 mb sections then compressed into the .ca2. the .ca2 packs the zlib compressed .cab sections into the .ca2 file with a 2048 byte buffer i believe. figure out as you go.

I still haven't done any type of modding to my 360 what so ever. I have forza 2 and damn near have it finished so I will want to see about modding it soon. Do you have any good links for me? I want to get back-up games working on my console. And how's the outlook for getting linux, or similar, working on the 360?
