I'm trying to hotswap using this tutorial to fix an error 21 and have followed the instructions.

My DVD IDE cable is unplugged, and the Xbox boots to an error 12 like it should, but the white MS text never shows up.

Does anybody have any ideas on what to do? Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the double post, but I found this and it says to go ahead with the swap before the error screen appears.

The guide looks outdated (June 2004), is the advice reliable?

Actually .. you can hotswap as soon as the LED on the front starts flashing red.

Yes, you can still safely follow that guide.

When I hotswap, I count off exactly ten seconds, remove the IDE cable from the Xbox, and plug in my computer's IDE cable into it. This usually results in a successful hotswap, and I don't need to connect the Xbox to a TV, either.
