ok, so here's what you want to do... using the communicator port on the bottom, the pins are labled 1-4. pin 1 and 3 put out 2 volts only when it's on. now, pins 1 and 4 will put out 2.5 volts when it's off and 3 volts when it's on. now, i used a test red led and it came on when using pins 1 and 3. the led's that i put in are white, so 2 volts didn't even make it blink.... now, the 2.5 volts that comes off 1 and 4 won't make them light up when it's off, but the 3 volts will when it comes on.

hope this helps.

ps... one thing that i have noticed, when the plug and chagre kit is pluged in, you still only get 3 volts, but no matter if it's charging or not, if it's pluged it, the LED's are always on. as far as battery life, i don't know yet, it's too soon to tell, since i just finished this about 10 mins ago. got to go to bed now for work, so i'll see later what the battery life is like.

Yah, this works fairly good. However after a couple of weeks I found that the transistor becomes less and less reliable. As a result I find that my LEDs either don't shut off or don't turn on with the controller. A quick fix to this is to remove and re-insert the battery pack into the controller. Don't know why.
