probably so, but the led's won't pull much amps, so it shouldn't be much....

and i actually have a theory that the headsets might actually connect wirelessly to the 360 and not the controller, but only time will tell.

yes those extra pins are good sources of a switching supply, but since they don't really provide enough voltage to light the leds correctly I made a small circuit to give the full battery voltage to the leds when the controller is on, and 0v when it is off.

You just need a NPN transistor ( I used a 2n3904), a 1K resistor (2K works too).

The pins of the transistor are labeled Emitter, Base, and Collector, and are similarly labled "E" "B" and "C" in my crappy drawing to show you how to hook it up.

There's a nice spot over in the corner of the controler to mount the thing too, complete with a 2v spot that turns on/off with the controller to turn the transistor on/off to turn the L.E.Ds on/off.

Just make sure like G0t M4xx 21 said you use an NPN transistor and get the Emitter, Base, Collector connected right. In these pics I used an NTE289A, but any small NPN in a TO-92 or Giant TO-92 package will work just fine.

TOP SIDE OF BOARD

TRANSISTOR AND RESISTOR INSTALLED (NOTE: Make SURE you install your transistor correctly, it may not have the same Emitter Base Collector configuration as this one)

SWITCHED SOURCE The Black wire is connected to the Collector of the transistor. The Red wire is connected to your + voltage source.

The AA spot will put out 3v, the Rechargeable and AA spot will put out 2.5v-2.7v

does this work on wired controllers too? i want to make my wired one's led's switch off when i turn the system off and not have it stay on becuase there's still a load.

Nope, all of the voltage points used in this thread thus far stay on in the Wired controller, even when the 360 is off. 3.3v between pins 1 and 4, then the 2v switched I use on the Wireless stays at 2.5v on the Wired. The board I have is pretty chewed up, but I'll look around for a switched voltage in there and see if there is anything to work with.

Found it already, just use any spot on the Sticks or Triggers voltage line. It sits at 1.6v on and then 0v when the 360 is off. That's enough to turn the transistor on and off, provided you do it that way.

okay so what your saying is that a transitor is not needed for the wireless contoller at those two points.... and the leds will turn off with the controller


EDIT: sorry those are both positive i just realized but has anyone found points on the wireless for 3.3v that goes off with the controller

There isn't a 3.3v source in the Wireless controller, 2AA x 1.5v each is 3v and there sure isn't a switchable 3v one from what I've seen so far, that's why the transistor is needed. With it installed and the positive end connected to the AA Battery Pack spot you can get 3v that turns on/off with the controller.

so if u connect it to the AA spot and use a transistor it will be on with the controller and off when the controller is off?
