Transcode 360 v1.0 Beta 4.1 -- Posted by XanTium on May 2 23:20 EST
Runtime released a new version of Transcode 360(info):
[QUOTE]
This new release of Transcode 360 features a user interface for managing your settings as well as a number of substantial improvements:
* There is a new 'Automatic' installation option that will run T360 in the task notification area (system tray); this makes configuration super-easy and mitigates the network permissions issues some users encountered.
* Both 2 and 6 channel (5.1) AC3 is supported and the AV sync issue affecting NTSC content has been fixed. Note that due to reliability issues Forward/Backward Skip are disabled while streaming AC3 soundtracks.
* In addition to regular playback of XviD and DivX, Transcode 360 supports DVD ISO and VIDEO_TS folder streaming with subtitles; determining the best combination of soundtrack/subtitles appropriate to you based on your locale.

I don't know why you guys always complain about how much cpu these programs use. Try encoding any decent res/size video file with your PC, and it will take up 100%.

I tried Beta 4 today, it worked fine.

Cause VLC360 uses far less power , why cant T360 do the same?

I'm just gonna assume there is no way to make the 360 take a load off the PC and have it do the processing? It just seems like a lot of raw processing power to leave sit there while my computer does all the work. Other than that, I LOVE Transcode, its sooooo easy to use, and works VERY well!! THANK YOU!

Blame M$, until they add codecs for divx/xvid, you're stuck having your PC transcoding content into either mpeg 1/2 or wmv format. There's no other way around it.

I've already responded to DaddyO in a different thread but apparently I can't find simple enough words for him to understand that T360 is a faster than realtime transcoding solution and VLC 360 is not. VLC wil tie up your PC as long as it takes for you to watch the film, while T360 will blitz through the film as fast it can leaving your PC to resume to its normal activity much sooner - ontop of which VLC is doing WMV encoding which is far much more CPU intensive and therefore less efficient. Personally while I'm watching my video I don't give much thought for what my PC is doing with its idle time.

Note I said idle time (and I've explained to you before what this means), if you're using the PC for some other application the operating system automatically cuts back the amount of CPU time available to Transcode 360 as its runs at a lower priority than normal applications.

I won't bother to try and explain the finer points of CPU utilization, multi-threading and thread priority because it'd probably cause your brains to bleed out through your nose and I don't want to be responsible for that! You'll just have to trust that just because your CPU is showing 100% utilization it doesn't mean Transcode is hogging resources - it just means its letting nothing get wasted.

Obviously VLC360 does what you want so I suggest you stick with it as I have no plans to redesign T360 for you; plenty of people are using T360 without issues.
