hi people,
i have a version 1.4 with a focus chip and pin 2 is grounded and pin 9 is 3.3v and an aladdin xt 4032 and the problem being that no matter what i do or try it just wont boot the modchip, i have tested the modchip in another xbox and its fine i also have flashed the bios on it to the one that suites v1.0-v1.5... at the moment i have the d0 on the chip grounded, but i have tried everything that every post and link has said but still no go ...even tried different dvdrom and hdd's. i've tried both the d0 connections, tried several different BT and L1 positions and even the pin 5 jumper as on this link http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/red-orange.php ,but still no joy... i have checked the board for solder splash and broken traces with a mag glass... i have tested the outputs of the LPC and they are all fine.... the closest i think i have had it was at one stage it would boot normal bios and when i held the button in to boot the chip it would give me no audio or video .... the only thing i havent tried is removing the LPC header and check for anything under there near pin2 and the closest via, as i noticed on another board that there is 2 via's close by.. please guys i am begging for help, as i have been at this for over the last 3 days....and what really gets me is this isnt my first install i have done several over the past with no trouble.....but yes i am still a noob and dont consider myself very experienced. thank you |

i have tried grounding the motherboard D0 and it still doesnt boot the chip...and also in that tut where is says to remove pins 3,4 and 12 does that still apply if i have the other version chip with the LPC header connection near the bios..if so then that may make a difference....
thanks for your reply |

ok, here is what i have since my last post, i removed everything i had done on the board apart from the LPC header ,removed pins 3,4 and 12 .soldered BT,L1 and D0 as per the tut which was what i had done previously anyway and i also soldered the LPC to the modchip instead of using the header connection on the modchip....and it f*ckn works in both modes.....i cant believe that the answer was in front of me the whole time as i had read and read that tut several times over the last 2 days... but i spose , i had pretty much confused myself several times with the redoing of my work and just over looked the obvious.......
and what sucks the most is that there about 9 different install diagrams all being different and one which referred an aladdin xt install to a duox2 diagram...which i stayed away from anyways.... anyways i must thank chancer for pionting me in the right direction, as no doubt you have done for many people over the past.... cheers dude |

If when you ground Xbox D0 it still boots retail then the problem is a bad connection to Xbox D0.
If you graound Xbox D0 it forces boot from the LPC providing D0 is making connection. The LPC connections will not cause just boot from the retail bios. If the LPC is bad you would get FRAG |

when i ground the D0 wire from the mainboard it powers up 2or3 times with no audio or video and whichs to flashing lights...i have resoldered the D0 wire a couple of times now and even used a different wire...but no luck..
is it true if you leave the D0 grounded it forces it to boot the modchip only? |

Yes it is true that grounding the D0 forces boot from the LPC.
leave the xbox D0 grounded at the moment. Now move on to the next step. Connect the BT point on your chip to pin 2 on the LPC (just link a piece of wire on top of the chip) If you still get boot with no Audio Video and FRAG then there is also a problem with the LPC soldering. You need to get the the box booting with D0 grounded and BT on the chip grounded before you put those 2 wires back to their normal locations. |

well, i have stripped everything of the board that i have done so i can start from scratch. i installed a new LPC header removing pins 3,4 and 12, i have used new wires again on the BT,L1 and D0 points. the D0 on the xbox is grounded and the BT on the chip is grounded. i booted it up and nothing just fraged..so i then went back to the website you mentioned and found the LPC diagram for checking the connects and it turned out that 2 LPC connections werent connecting properly, so i linked them with wire to the right points...plugged it in and finally it works and booting from the chip, i will leave all as it is as i have no use for retail bios......
so hopefully when i assemble it all again it will boot for me..... i am really thankfull for all your help......and i hope i dont have to reply in this thread again.... on the up side of things, at least i know the basics in fault testing now, which will come in handy on these consoles in the future.... cheers chancer... |
