i use a ethernet router and two ethernet cables. 1 to pc, 1 to xbox, both into the router. Your dashboard on your xbox should say in the settings what your ip is, your ip address on your computer can be found looking in your connection settings( in the start menu> connect to> show connectios> if you have yor router hooked up there should be a icon here>properties). but all you really need to know is your xbox ip, once you have that download flashfxp from xbins. Open fxp, hit F8 to quich connect, enter your xbox's ip, deselect anonymous, enter "xbox" as user name and password, hit connect. if all is well your hdd will appear on the right side. Then just transfer what ever you want, wherever you want.

it is also possible to make a direct connection from pc to xbox w/ a special ethernet cable called a crossover cable. i have never had success w/ this and sense i have a router i never really needed to, but there are resources in the forums if you search.

your ip might not be showing up because its not connected correctly, though i think it does have a default ip. if your using unleashx its in the network settings menu, samething for probably any other dash. you don't have to be connected to the internet to make this work, your just trying to make your own little internet between your pc and xbox, so you use some of the same programs, your either need to buy a router, buy/make crossover cable, and learn how to set that up.
