Team Xecuter Dual Firmware Mod Update *Updated* -- Posted by XanTium on May 21 16:27 EST
In a previous news we already informed you Team Xecuter(info) was working on some new hardware products like (among other stuff) a dual-firmware mod for Xbox360 DVD drives. Here's an update from team-xecuter.com:
We had just started to finalize a nice and easy plug-n-play dual firmware mod and look what we found in our batch of TS-ODD Xbox 360's

Xbox-Scene

So much for plug-n-play and a no-mess install. Pain in the ass :/
Looks like there's some Epoxy on the firmware chip of this TS-ODD drive, so you can't easily access the legs of the firmware IC. Remove the substance (not easy at all without breaking the IC/legs, it's much harder than removing normal glue) or search for alternative points (which is easier I think, but will probably still require some harder solder work) is still an option I guess.
*Update* I knew I saved something about this on my HDD somewhere ... found it back now. Somewhere in january of 2006 Darkfly already released a pinout (alternative points) of the TS-H943 firmware chip. Here it is:

the ultimate MS defense about us hacking the system is a little bit of hot glue? that will be a pain in the ass, but as far as preventing 360 hacking thats a joke

I dont think thats hot glue...I think its Epoxy...which if it is it would be a pain in the ass to remove and not to mention it would probably damage the drive....now im not saying it is epoxy...theres a good chance its not but if it is...that will suck

Want to "stop" yourself loosing millions of pounds? Want to "stop" pirates? THEN USE SOME GLUE! Nice one Microsh*t!

LOL anyways. Well it wont stop the chip being installed as its probally that "hot glue gun" kinda glue which can be cut/pulled off. I dont think they would of used super glue because it would melt the lacker on the PCB. It will just take longer to apply the hack, it wont stop it....

Nice one MS! pop.gif

they are more than aware it won't stop the hack...who honestly thinks that they think it will stop it??? wow some of you are idiots...

will it buy them a week or two to possibly develop the update planned a bit more? probably.
