Lemme state some history about me first...real quick... 20 years old, and have been keeping up with emulation, hacking, and modding since dcemulation days... Seeing all this hard work come to XBOX, has been more then incredible! Not only can we almost do anything a 360 can, but almost more then someones standard pc.

Now getting back on topic of one of the most indepth dashboards you can use....XBMC... After the release of MC360 (Much credit given to team blackbolt), it almost seems like.... What more could you want out of your xbox? I know one thing that would definatly make alot of you guys happy.........

What if emulator porters where to incorporate their interfaces and coding, INTO XBMC?... Pointless navigation throughout our dashboards would almost be completly removed. I love how team blackbolt has almost made navigating of what i want to run SO MUCH EASIER, but being able to just go to "Xbox arcade" and actually still be able to pick your rom from the dash board WOULD BE UNBELIVEABLE!

Now the last feature that seems like it will never happen, is being able to have the dashboard running in background while playing games.... I know this is like waiting for a PSX emu to play every game out there, but its a dream, and probably to someone out there..... A GOAL!!!!

well, as you may or may not know, Xport is one of the more prolific developers in the Xbox emulation scene. he uses basically the same front-end GUI engine for all his stuff, which is great because his apps all behave in a consistent manner. anyways, he made his apps executable in "alternative" ways, meaning the apps can be told to launch a specific game by the launching app (i.e. dashboard). this means that a dashboard is theoretically capable of serving as a unified front end for all his stuff and also the place where his stuff can be launched. support for this in XBMC is not currently a priority, as they're extremely busy trying to get version 2.0 completely debugged so they can declare it "stable" and officially release it. before they do that, expect NO new major features.

as to your second idea, it is impossible. the XBox kernel will only execute one process at a time. it does this because it's a very lean system (only 64 MB of RAM for BOTH video and system stuff, 733 MHz CPU). there's basically no way around this limitation, but for most people IGR is close enough to this functionality to be happy...

rom frontend is a script job.

i added the support to execute xport emus with games given a while back (using .cut files). you have all the tools you need, now go use them.

Thanks very much for the input... Slumber you made everything alot clearer, not only for me, but i bet a bunch of xbox-sceners...

One more discussion, and yes it is alil off topic....

Now...the rivalry between MS and sony has gone beyond crazy... From what has been said, both MS, and sony are actully very eager to see the unbelivable capabilities of nintendo's Wii. Ok... everything still makes sense, besides one thing. We all know how much money these companies are dedicating towards creating the next-gen consoles. WHY NOT MERGE WITH NINTENDO!!! yea, it sounds almost stupid, but if either MS, or sony did, they would have an unbelivable next-gen system.

As it is nintendo has taken some new looks, actually since game cube they will never be the same! Ever since nes day, nintendo was the most credited video console developer back in the day. A merge with MS or sony could almost garutee double the demand... I know that if someone was to hear "The best new next-gen console is gonna be something MS and nintendo made" i would go out and buy it faster then i would purchase a 360 or a ps3.

Now back to reality, now this shouldnt be a company taking over another company, but instead an alliance between two of the most cutting-edge console developers...... AND MAKING SOMETHING THAT EVERYONE WANTS!!!!!

it'd be even better if nintendo only made games for sony and MS, so there'd be mario, zelda, SSB, metroid and all else on both systems.

No way, Selling out their popular games would be like rockstar coming out with GTA For all consoles. Yea they will make more money, but if the system was developed by both companies. THEN THE POSSIBILITIES WOULD ALMOST BE ENDLESS!!!

hahhaha this thread went way off topic smile.gif

and i guess you folks don't know a lot about business? Nintendo is currently a hardware vendor first and a software vendor second. while they continue to sell their own systems it is in their best interest to give the consumer as many incentives to buy those systems as possible (i.e. have a lot of exclusive games).

a historical point of reference for this discussion is Sega. they used to be a hardware AND software vendor, and then after the Dreamcast got out of the hardware business for the most part. it was around the same time that they did this that they began to do software for many platforms. see a correlation?

back on topic, has anyone seen the emulator launcher front end Python script that's being developed?

I require someone with elementary programming skills to fashion a PC based utility for autocreation of said .CUT files. I lay out such a program here. This will enable selection of individual games as box front icons / game cartridge scans with little work from the end user. Have I missed the introduction of such a utility? We have art to supply the other end at the above- and below-linked site. I'm also somewhat curious as to how items in individual blades may be customized, ie Xbox Arcade's directory and descriptive information altered or items added to the Games blade. Surely I just can't find the XML. This would enable customization of the Games blade to a point that, combined with this ethereal PC utility, would dominate the current EmuLauncher script. .TBN files for every .CUT.
