If you want a Samsung really bad then buy a used system at like Ebgames/Gamestop and tell them you want to try it out before you buy it (although with used systems you never know what you will be getting as far as quality)

Well, I read through alot of posted stated that the LOT# on the xbox360 box, would be the most reliable source to look for when looking for a SamSung Drive. Well, it work for me at least. Here is some LOT# to look when buying one.
Premium: 0611, 0553, 0612, 0604, 0605, 0608
This premium package LOT# 0613 is definitely 100% a Sumsamg Drive b/c I have two xbox360 xbox with the LOT# and both is a SamSung Drive. And bought this from walmart on 06/15/2006.

It couldn't matter less now what drive you get. There is a firmware hack for the Samsung drive and both revisions of the Hitachi drive. And seemingly the whole process of flashing and then creating compatible backups is actually easier on the Hitachi.
So you shouldn't be worrying about which drive you get in your 360. It makes no difference anymore.
