I just finished unlocking all my xbox original hard drives. Here’s my count so far:

ST310014ACE...........................................12
ST310211A............................................... 5
WD80EB-28CGH2...................................... 5
WD80EB-28CGH1(That’s My old one)......... 1
WD400BB-00AUA1.....................................1
WD2000JB-00GVA0....................................1

Getting started was a pain but once I got going it went smooth. First I download the HDD unlock wizard and install it. My initial computer setup was:

Primary Master: 120 gig WD HD (windows OS)
Primary Slave: 160 gig WD HD
Secondary Master: DVD-RW
Secondary Slave: DVD-RW

After trying numerous variations what I finally got to work was:

Primary Master: 120 gig WD HD (windows OS)
Primary Slave: 160 gig WD HD
Secondary Master: Locked HD I was trying to unlock
Secondary Slave: Nothing

And trust me I tried them every which way. My ultimate goal was to have two locked HD on my computer at once. Every way I tried it, it told me to unplug the second device. This does not mean its not possible just that I wasn’t smart enough to do it.

After I got it set up I would open HDD unlock wizard. The first screen would prompt you to push next. One of the only problems I had was after I would push next it would bring up an error screen. Just go back in and try it again. After a few tries it would go through again. The next screen was your drive selection screen, pick your locked HD.
After that it will tell you whether you can unlock your HD or not. After that it will ask you for your card number. It will display a link to their website. This is where some other people along with myself were getting hung up. You would put in you name and email, it would send you an email, however the card code field was blank. I found the “up to 320 gig” card work every time. One quick tip, if you need multiple card codes (I could only get the card code to work once for one HD) once you click one the get code button it will tell you your email has been sent, just hit the back button retype whatever name you used and the same email. Click on send and repeat. I got 25 of them no problem. Once you get your card code enter it and in about 10 min. you have an unlocked drive.

Another tip, not for the faint of heart, once I got going I started “hot swapping” the locked drives. It was taking too long to shut my computer down, unplug, plug in, restart etc. When one was finished I would unplug the power then the cable, plug in the cable to the new one and then the power. Hopefully this helps. By the way 2 extra codes for 320 gig drives:

03B3TNF0OWM1ABGH

Nice post but a liitle late hopefully they will have a free days later this month. I won't be able to use it as I am in the road. Ohh well. 8GB drives are worth less to me. I got 15 of them if anyone wants them 5 bucks a pop.

Well, I have to at least say it does seem to work. I had a locked Seagate and Western Digital stock xbox hard drive that it unlocked in about 10 minutes (each.) I at least owe them thanks for that. Aside from the buggy site (sending codeless emails) and the single error the program gave me (on first run) this program seems decent.

A packet sniffer showed some interesting info. None of the data transfered to or from there server was human readable (unless maybe your RainMan) but it seems to send and receive data trhoughout the unlocking process. I'm going to take a closer look at it later for my own curiosity.

Thanks A-FF for the those two 8GB drives that are useable again.

QUOTE(stalkster420 @ Jun 13 2006, 03:48 PM) *

i idid'nt seem to have any problems other then trying to figure how to use it. my pcs kinda old and would not boot with the locked drive set as slave, master, ect. this is what i did maybe can help a few people having problems. let me say first of all the ide cable from mb to hdd is a 2 device. the one to the cd-rom is a one device.

1.put locked hdd in pc hook up the molex cable(power) not the ide make sure the jumper on the hdd is set to master.
2.boot up pc let it start up all the way.
3.have your email code and start up the unlock program. at this point carfully unplug the cd-rom drives ide cable.
4.plug it in to the locked hdd. and fallow the wizard.
5. when its done shut down the pc. plug the ide cable back into the cd-drive. at this point you can remove the hdd that now has been unlocked. and throw it in you chiped box with a copy of a.i.d to format it. or format it for pc use.............

good post i had mine setup the same except i had the hdd hooked up to the ide cable on bootup. the program would detect the drive but give me an error when it was checking to see if it was unlockable. i tried it with the dvd rom method you explained above and it worked perfect and is currently unlocking a bricked 120 gig drive i have had for years. if anyones having any issues try this method you should be fine

I couldn't find this on their website, but do you loose all your data?

I haven't seen anywhere that you do but people have been talking about formatting the drive so I didn't know.

The reason I'm asking is that I have a brick 10GB Seagate stock xbox drive so if I can get my old game saves off there, cool. I'll just get them then throw the drive away because I don't have any other use for a 10GB drive.

But the way, yes I know to back up the EEPROM but this was my first xbox chip install and I fraged the mobo. Bad times.

Edit: Spelling errors

Thanks for all the posts stating how everyone got the program to work. I wouldnt post asking for help, but the free trial ends in about 7 hours. So if someone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

What I have on my IDE cable in my computer:

120 gig hd with XP Pro

DVD-Rom

DVD Burner

Empty Slot

My question is: When and in what position do I put my locked 160 gig hard drive in, also is the HD set to master?

I have tried putting it in the 2nd HD slot set to master = computer won't boot up.

I have tried putting it in the cd-rom slot 1 with just the power plugged in, not the ide cable. Then once my computer boots up I plug in the ide cable. The program only recognizes 1 hd and its the main 120 gig hd.

Leave everything thats connected to the 1st ide cable alone. The 2nd ide cable needs to only be connected to the modo. Make sure the locked hard drive is set as master. Connect power cable to the locked hdd. Boot computer. At the desktop, connect 2nd ide cables primary connector to the locked hdd. Run program and it should detect your locked hard drive. Self explanitory from there. Hope that gets you somewhere. :-)

Thanks Red for the help, also like the picture icon you have.

Anyways, for some clarification if you don't mind.

1.) When you say the first IDE cable, do you mean the IDE cable that connects to the 2 HD's or 2 CD/DVD Roms?

2.) Also, you stated, "The 2nd ide cable needs to only be connected to the modo." is modo mother board?

3.) Does it matter which source the locked HD gets power from, currently I have it plugged into the 2nd HD slot.

Thanks again, I hope to hear from you or another intelligent person with the clearification.

i did a little packet sniffing...

it looks like the app communicates with the following address: secure.a-ff.com:5411

it looks like a-ff.com is a parent site of hdd-unlock

I dont have time tonight to play around with this, and i dont know where i would start, hopefully someone w/ some knowledge comes along who knows whats going on.

I've got logs if they'd be of any use to anyone

All the hdd unlocking info is stored on their servers.
The codes they're giving you are temporary passwords to access their servers (and the appropriate hdd unlocking routines).

If you wanna take a whack at cracking & accessing their server info, you might want to take a look at their A·FF repair station software as well since this is the program they created to unlock hdd's over the internet. This new stuff is just a beta version they're trying out.
