Me too laugh.gif

Heh, just kidding, but it's only a matter of time before someone makes a "rebuild board"-style thin PCB with SST, SMD resistors, and quicksolder points (or "clip") which will make the process easier (and cleaner)...

Nice work. PS2 chippers will have no problem with this mod.

nice mod ....

the board would be dead before i even got half way with the mod ,

complicated ,time consuming and difficult to solder,

not a big deal for electrical engineers though,

Anybody got any ideas on how to flash this? I was able to do this but whenever I switch it to the blank firmware chip my PC won't boot up. I switch back it'll all boot fine and detect the hitachi drive. I notice that the original person said he used slax but never mentioned if it was with the blank firmware chip.

You won't be able to use any of the current flashing tools to flash a blank Hitachi SST chip. The flashing programs require a virgin firmware on the chip, and only patch certain sectors.

You'll need to program the blank chip in an external programmer first. Then I suppose you could use Xtreme or FW toolbox to write the Xtreme sectors, but you may as well do it all in the external programmer.

...So what you're saying is you have to initially flash the blank chip with a stock firmware first, *then* add iXtreme later? Any tuts on how to build a programmer, or where to buy a cheap one?

Would it be safer to have stock f/w on the first chip or the second?... Or would it really matter? I'm considering this mod due to how I've heard stock fw versus ixtreme is like challenge and response versus challenge and emulated response.

Buy a Willem Programmer.
Also id leave the default chip stock. And flash the add-on one straight to ixtream 1.51.
