Team Underdog Website Launched: NME-360 DVD FW Patch Mod
Posted by XanTium | June 20 17:15 EST

We already talked about this new DVD firmware 'patch' chip for the Xbox 360 last week. Team Underdog now launched the official website for this new product.

From team-underdog.com:

We are proud to introduce the first real Modchip for the Xbox360!
The NME-360 enables your XBox360 to play backups of your highly valuable original games. NME-360 is a universal solution for ALL currently available XBox360 Consoles on the market. Forget crazy dual mods with 30+ wires or even bricking your DVD drive by flashing corrupt/wrong firmware files. Your original firmware stays untouched and intact at any time when using the NME-360. There is no need for any firmware-reading or flashing.
Simply install the NME-360 with the special easy to fit pre-wired cables (4 cables for Samsung, 11 wires for Hitachi/LG) and you are done...

NME-360 - the clever solution:
The NME-360 autodetects the inserted media. If the inserted media is a backup NME-360 injects the necessary information to the DVD drive enabling it to boot smoothly ahead! If the media is an original game, or anything else, which doesnt require any further action of the NME-360 then it simply falls asleep so there is no need for an external switch whatsoever. This way it can not be detected online when you play an original onlinegame.

We are now in the stage of finalizing the first batch of NME-360 Chips which is going to be shipped to the distributors in the first week of july.

*ahum*, it's a modchip for the DVD-ROM drives, not for the Xbox 360 itself. This is not the 'first real modchip for the Xbox 360'!

technically it is a mod chip
any chip that alters the normal function of any device is a modchip

just not in the traditional sense that we are used to

I never denied about it being a modchip.

Technically, a modchip for the Xbox 360 is a chip you must somehow connect to the Xbox 360 (the mainboard)... not it's DVD-ROM drive. It doesn't really matter which BIOS it runs or what that BIOS can do.

Then again, you are right that the Xbox 360 is truly hacked when unsigned code can be run on it. smile.gif Too bad that everyone is focusing on playing pirated games and/or backups while Xbox Media Center 360 would be much cooler.

Hmm... so is the chip running while backups are playing?

Trying to see what this actually does in more detail, and where this puts MS efforts to squashing these exploits with updates. Also compared to just a firmware update, what more does this give you besides never needing to switch firmwares back to the original.

I would normally agree but that may be stretching it a bit. It technicaly is a modchip for the 360. Last I checked the DVD rom drive was locked to the system and is part of the overall unit. How it fuctions maybe differant then the XBOX1 but in the same rights a modchip it is.

For example, just because it does not launch a dash just makes it another type of a modchip. No one ever said a mod chip must attack a bios. Maybe its time to rewrite the names then. Bios-ModChip--ODD-ModChip. But the name still includes modchip.

Just like the PS2 chips. Most, even early on, just injected code to run backups. That's it. No OS or "PSMC/XBMC". They are still considered a modchip with no one saying differant. Just because it attacks other fuctions and hardware on the box does not make it less of a modchip.

This may not be what YOU or I consider a TRUE MODCHIP, but I think they can safely call it THE FIRST modchip without getting greif.

* will not say the word MODCHIP for 3 days nows.*

I think it is great that teams are putting out chips and ideas on how to use the holes being found and developed in the 360. Everything has to start somewhere right!? At least it sounds like these guys have an actual product! Just wait the xbox 1 modchips with all the functionality that we have grown to love did not develop over night either.

yeah, just wait till MS does start detecting stuff and they send a update and it bricks your "dvd drive modchip"
who wants to bet on this???? ill put $20 saying these will get bricked if/when MS starts doing dvd drive firmware update...

I know they said they would update their site in a few days but it would be nice if we could at least get a photo or something dry.gif Plus I honestly don't feel like permanently soldering 11 wires to my 360.

How will it brick the 360 if it doesn't overwrite the orginal firmware?? Wouldn't it be safer then the current method of dvd firmware hacks?

From Xantium's post above "Your original firmware stays untouched and intact at any time when using the NME-360. There is no need for any firmware-reading or flashing. Simply install the NME-360 with the special easy to fit pre-wired cables"

And what does "easy to fit prewired" mean?

*buries his face in his hands* oops I see that juanman meant the modchip would be bricked not the 360 or DVD drive, my bad.

M$ will NEVER do that, because there wil be a law suit faster than you can shit. Because hacking the firmware (DCMA) is illegal in North america, but it's not illegal in other countries, so M$ has no grounds to do that and can therefore be sued by all other parties.
