With the firmware hacks and these backups and Dual Layer nonsense, how well do the backups work?

Are the load times significantly different, do the burning speeds affect this? (only mentioning 1x - 4x) in a racing game for instance, would it be smooth gameplay?

when the drive has to access the second layer fo the dvd does it lag, are their any issues with this.
