Spoken like a true modder. laugh.gif

I'm going to call BS until we see pictures/more people start discovering this drive in retail 360s.

I'm not gonna void out my warranty, especially since I just plunked down $50 for the PRP at Gamestop. I'll see if I can borrow a friend's digital camera and take some pics. All I know is that it's not a Hitachi or a Sammy, as I've had both. The tray looks IDENTICAL to the pics of the Philips I've seen on this site and others. Whatever it is, it's IMO the best drive out there as far as speed and quietness goes. And XRY...you don't have to believe me. It won't hurt my feelings. I beleive it's the Philips drive though. Not a Hitachi, and not a SAMMY.....

Ehm, why so hostile?

There is too many noobs at this forum. People pretending to know what they are talking about. I just wanted to filter you out from that crowd smile.gif

Everybody at this forum is newbs until proven otherwise biggrin.gif

lol the 16x in my PC is quieter than my 360 and so is the modded PC 16x samsung in my xbox 1 for a 12x my 360 is loud (and iv had 2 out of the 3 to know) i had a toshiba-samsung then my replacement unit was a Hitachi-LG and they both sound like a jet engine.....

My Pioneer 111D is just as loud (if not louder) than my 360 when I burn a DVD at 16X when it reaches the point where its burning at 12x and faster.

I understand everyone's skepticism, but why would I lie about this? Trust me...I'm just as surprised as all of you are since I was expecting to get a SAMSUNG. The tray looks exactly the same as the pic on this site, only it's gray. I'm not posting here to get attention, but I wanted to let everyone know that there IS another drive out there, and it looks like it's a Philips drive.

It is not a Philips as, Philips drives are for sure only in DEV. unit's and have no AES key.

And Philips sold their optical side of the business to BenQ.

Lite-On also has merged their business with BenQ.

M$ has ordered new design of DVD drive to be produced by the new Lite-On/BenQ company,
and those drives are going to start appearing in x360 consoles soon, originally planned for
the same change in the assembly lines for when the new 65nm CPU die is ready.

This could be an early production run with the new drive, as it does have a later mfg. date
then I have seen so far, and all the recent production lots I have see have either an MS28
or the horrible v78 drive, and those don't date pass the Oct. / Nov. dates.

I have stated before that by XMAS or just after you would be seeing x360 consoles with
the new Lite-On/BenQ drive, but without any pictures or more units appearing it is hard
to know for sure one way or the other.

At some point smeone will be willing to open their brand-new console to take pictures.

Don't bother opening your 360
Eject the tray
Take a picture of it
Photobucket it
Link to it

Then you WILL get attention (whether you want it or not) as the first to post a pic of the new drive. Probably get frontpaged as well! tongue.gif

Don't forget to update the Xbox 360 DVD Drive Database too. If it helps Maximus or GaryOPA to get hold of one, then as I always say...

My guess is that you are looking at the pictures for the old xbox drives. They had philips drives, and probably look like the new hitachi if I remember correctly.

The XBOX Philips drive had a tray that had a 'light bulb" shaped cut out in it. This one has a cut out similar to the old Thomson drive, but the cut out is bigger. If it's not a Philips and is a Ben Q as garyopa says, that's fine by me. Whatever it is, it is making Oblivion it's bitch and doing it VERY quietly which is a nice change after the noisy Hitachi and T/S drives.

Got pictures, its a Phillips VAD6038. The date on the drive is 11/2006. Lot # on box is 0651, below that there is another number that reads WO B4J61213L1. Got a few close up shots, a shot from behind to show the SATA and power, and one with the whole open box itself with the drive inside. Hope this helps out and proves any disbelievers that this drive does actually exist.
