Okay, I just got a Cromwell x2, and this is what happens-

with Maxtor 100gb - Err. 13 (diff. hdd)
with Stock - boots to UnleashX

All the points are soldered.

No pinheader or wired, just sorta laid it on and soldered it in. (saw it in a tut once)

Maybe the pads aren;t touching ?

Please help

you need to put a dash on the 100 gig hard drive
error 13 means missing dash

I only have a laptop running Linux, and the xbox loads the dash with the stock hdd as if the chip weren't even in there. Everything is secure, I just resoldered the thing five minutes ago.

You aren't making sense. You just said with the stock HD in there is boots to UnleashX. So obviously you mod chip is working just fine. You just need to install a dash on the 100GB. download an autoinstaller disc to do it for you.
