Hello,
Is it safe to flash bios from Slayers Evox Auto Installer v2.6 ? I bought a used and modded XBox v1.0 with Xecuter2, currently has Evox 3935 installed. It also has a switch for Bank1 & 2. Not sure what that is either and hope someone could please explain the difference. Which bank should I use to flash the bios? I don't know much about flashing the bios, so I thought that I should ask it here before doing so. Reason is that someone told me that the bios in Slayers supports LBA48 for large hard drive, which I need for new 180GB drive I'm trying to install. Thanks in advance! |

Not sure what that is either and hope someone could please explain the difference. Which bank should I use to flash the bios? I don't know much about flashing the bios, so I thought that I should ask it here before doing so. Does it have a single green/red LED on the switch module? X2.3b most likely. Three LEDs? X2.6 perhaps. A bios bank holds a single bios. You have two so if you screw one up you have another free to load a working bios from. Also, you could have two working bioses each set up differently, but don't bother about that now. Flash to whichever you are NOT CURRENTLY BOOTING FROM. This way you will always have your current bios/bank to fall back on. Since you have a v1.0 Xbox, though, you'll be hard pressed to screw up royally if you flash X2.5035 to your NON-CURRENT bank and use that. Older bioses indeed support LBA (big drives) but X2.5xxx bioses are already sized properly to 512kb for flashing to your specific chip. A smaller, older bios may need resizing from 256kb to a proper size, depending on how you flash. When you get it sorted, and IF YOU REALLY DO NEED to flash a new bios, either use Evox (yes, Slayer's is Evox) or better yet install FlashX, the Team Xecuter app for flashing X2.x chips. Thanks Xombe!
It has only one Green LED with 3 switches. 1:) Enable/Disable 2:) Protect/Unprotect 3:) Bank 1 / 2 Is it X2.3b ? Is there a way to view system bios info version? Sounds like I should try flashing the Bios to Bank2 and leave bank1 to fall back just in case. |

1) Sure sounds like it.
2) Perhaps, if you have Evox or another dash that has the proper MD5 hash for your bios (not a problem if you're using a "stock" bios that isn't edited) to refer to. Example: XBMC with the proper hash for my edited 4981 added http://home.att.ne.jp/alpha/xombe/xbmc/sysinfo8.htm What does Evox say for BIOS under Settings? 3) Yes, I'd say so. |
