Could you be a bit more specific please? Define "locking up"...

If its not playing some games you may need a new DVD Rom or just a new laser for your Rom.

Yup, sounds like your DVD Rom is slowly dieing. You could take it apart, and take some alcohol and a q-tip and gentley clean the laser.

This has proven successful for me many times with an older rom i used to use. Otherwise its time for a new laser or complete new rom.

Sometimes, lockups can also be caused by an overheating MCPX chip.

If you place your finger on yours, does it get very hot?

The price of one varies, but unless you are skilled with a SMD workstation, they are not replaceable. If it is overheating, placing a heatsink on it can help keep it cooler.

Some other things to try are:

- Clear the cache. The cache is everything inside 'E:\CACHE' and in the X, Y, and Z drives.
- Restore the C drive to stock, using the MS dashboard from a Slayer's EvoX auto-installer disc.
- Reformat the hard drive to stock.
