cant find any information about anyone who did this sucessfully on a Hitachi-LG drive...

I do find a lot of people askin how to flash their extra SST chip.. but none got a answer sad.gif
someone told that you have to use a exernal programmer
Is that only the first time? can i flash it later when in the drive?

Please correct me if I'm wrong but it's my understanding that you would program the chip once it is soldered on the other chip. The switch controls which firmware chip gets power. Either way you have it switched will determine which one is being programmed.

No, the switch controls which tsop is enabled, not which one gets power. Both chips are powered when the 360 is turned on but only the tsop that is selected is able to be read or written to.

I would imagine that, espically for a hitachi, it has to be flashed externally first.

Thank you for that correction...I was reading the diagrams wrong.

So what is stopping you from soldering the chip and then programming it since the other chip can't be written too? If anyone has done this please speak up.

That isnt an issue for samsung drives since the software we use, mtkflash, flashes an entire image. However, the only software we have to flash hitachi drives is flashsec. This flashes sectors at a time, and thus, i really dont see it being feasible to flash the entire chip that way.

Has anyone determined if you can or can't flash the new chip while it's on the drive using a Hitachi drive?

if I do the mod I can't read the one chip, then write that data to the new one?

Thanks

No, you can't flash the Hitachi chips in place.
I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) that part of the loader is on the tsop and thats why it can't be flashed as a whole.
If anyone want to send me a clean (not covered in epoxy resin) plcc or tsop chip, I'll happily flash and verify it for a small fee wink.gif

I'm gonna be swapping my 360 for my sisters later (she'll never use Live), and I have a spare drive to do exactly this :-)

James

I wonder if we could expand on this mod by using a bigger switch to disconnect the ethernet??
Just a thought and I'll have a look later.

Does anyone know how the NME chip blocks the ethernet?
Is it just a matter of grounding the point on the install diagram?

Thanks,
James

Right,
Gone a bit mad and done a double decker tsop mod.
Worked from the guide but done the full mod on the hitachi and switches fine.
Double decker tsop wink.gif

Off down to Maplins to get me a switch and LED's

James
