Globe 360 Dual Firmware DVD Mod with Drive-key Bypass
Posted by XanTium | July 5 01:00 EST

Alcema posted on eurasia.nu about a new DVD firmware chip for the Xbox 360. It's a dual-fw style of mod (not a FW patch mod), but it has something special ... the FW you fash on this flashchip will not have to be patched with your DVD-key:
[QUOTE]
I want to signal the upcoming release of a new modchip for X360, Globe-360. This is not simply a dual-firmware mod, with this modchip you don't need to extract the drive-key from your console because it's PLUG&PLAY. Thanks to the ACTEL CPLD this modchip bypass the drive-key check; your original firmware stays intact all the time. There is no need for any firmware-reading or flashing, you can reprogram the on-board flash easliy with independent eprom programmer (aka Willem-prog) and replace it in the clean socket PLCC connector. More details (price, diagrams, how-to, resellers, etc) will be available soon.
Globe 360

Features:
* Plug&Play : DON'T NEED the extraction of drive-key from the original firmware of drive on your console, only install the chip and the "unsigned" firmware on-board will be boot .
* Electronic Switch ON/OFF : enable or disabile the chip when turn-on your console by power button, you can check the state of chip by a led-indicator
* Firmware-drive UPGRADE: you can use an upgraded firmware for better performance of your dvd-drive to reading dvd-r DL support ( eg: you should use on LG/Hitachi the firmware vers. 059 instead your original 047D or 46D).
* Easy Reprogrammable Flash eprom: the on-board flash eprom is mounted on a socket connector for an easy and clean remove in order to fast reprogramming it.
* COMPATIBILE whit ALL DVD-drive on the market (LG e SAMSUNG).
* High reliability through ACTEL cpld technology.

Exactly... nice to see the chip-market starting to take off (perhaps things will get simpler and simpler).

PLCC is the package type of the chip

its saying that it has a socketable PLCC making it easy to program, its got to be soldered in normally tho by the looks of things

i dont think we will see anything like that for a while altho i could be wrong.

the thing is the dvd firmware patch expects the game to be like genuine media and doesnt like it when its burned in the usual way. this is only a first gen chip, hopefully we will see a homebrew capable chip in the near future

so my question would be if you dont need to need your dvd-key does that mean you can slap any 360-dvdrom in and have it work?

Did I miss something? Since when is this possible and where is the proof 059 gives beter dvd-r DL support?

its been possible all along if you removed the chip and programmed the other version firmwares onto it, as the 46,47,and 57 drives are hardware identical the difference is that they are recompiles so the offsets end up different, as for the reading i heard they are all the same

as to the other person who asked about the dvd keying, the answer is no, what it means is u can use the hacked firmware on the chip without having to get the key out of the dvd drive, it simply grabs the key from the original firmware and hands it to the xbox360
