How To Open The Hdd *full Tutorial *lots Of Pics*, I didnt see any tutorials in the tuts section so here ya go! Options

Here is my full tutorial on how to open the XBOX 360 Harddrive unit.
First off here is the HDD.

Now this is optional but to remove the chrome top bezel take a small slotted screwdriver and put it under the lip of the bezel. Now slowly and carefully pry up on the bezel. Do this the entire way around the bezel. I recommend putting something between the outer edge and your screwdriver. Like I did with the dollar bill. This will prevent damage done to the outer edge.

Now it will come off easily like so.

Here is the HDD with the bezel removed.

Now here is the bottom of the HDD. Notice 3 torx screws are visible. There is a fourth under the silver MS sticker. The size of the bit needed is a T6.

Here is the MS sticker where the fourth screw is located.

You will need to remove this sticker to get to the screw. (If you peel this sticker off it will VOID your HDD manufacture's warranty!) Here is how MS knows if the sticker has been removed. It will leave bits of the sitcker behind as shown below.

Now to remove the stickies I used Goo Gone. Put a drop on and a cotton swab will do wonders. Look below for a cool pic of the Goo Gone in action.

Now that the stickies are gone you can see all 4 T6 screws.

Now grab the rounded end and gently lift up. Also push the top half towards the fron of the HDD.

It will lift off and the innards will be exposed. Notice the button latch here. To remove pull the black tabs up and off. Dont loose any parts. Especially the spring.

Now that thats off you will see 4 black T10 screws holding on the metal sheilding. Now remove those.

Now carefully pull up and off the metal sheilding.

Here it is with the sheilding removed.

Look at the HD's plastic connector.

Now carefully slide down the HD while holding onto the HD connector.

Now lift upwards on the bottom of the bottom metal sheilding and the HD will silde out. Here is the bottom of the HD.

Here is a top view of the HD.

Here is the bottom half of the HD housing without the HD.

Now to remove the metal case from the plastic bottom you need to be cautious. It is held on with tough double-sided tape. Take a flat screwdriver and gently pry it under the metal and slide it towards the opposite side. It tough and will take a while but go slow. You dont wanna break the plastic bottom.

Here is what it looks like when first removed.

Now here is the top half of the HDD case. Notice the 4 tabs.

To remove the chrome edging you will need to pry the 4 tabs outwards to you to seperate the top and side. Be cautious not to break the edge! Here they are seperated.

Now here is all the parts layed out.

Now to remove the stickers on the bottom half I used Goo Gone again. It was a pain in the butt! LOL! It took forever!

Here we go! All stickies gone!


Finnaly Im done. LOL! Now if your wondering why to open the HD well it's for painting the case or putting a bigger Serial ATA HD in.

Now im not gonna go into details but im working on modding my HD. All I can say is ITS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE! It will be awesome, origional, and match with my 360. (Click my sig to see what I mean!)
